Finance hasn't contributed nearly as much to global GDP as your post suggests. Innovation (specifically the industrial revolution) has been the key driver of improved productivity. Everything of value has to be based on something real.

A few notes about the shift from manufacturing to a service based economy: - Services take a larger share of GDP by staying flat while prices of goods fall. You pay less for most manufactured goods than you did 20 years ago, while your hair

I wish someone would give PRT a chance. Something like skyTran could be built for 1/5th the cost and would be significantly faster for commuters (since most time is spent at stops before yours).

Based on the down-votes I'm assuming most React users don't actually know what the virtual DOM is...

Using Polymer(...) instead of document.registerElement(...) means that for anyone to re-use a component I build, they will need Polymer as a dependency. There will likely be more web component based libraries popping up, so then I'm go

I am currently building a large SPA in pure javascript (custom elements mostly) and it's wonderful. It's great to work with real components instead of React's hacked kinda-sorta-components.

The custom element polyfill is 2KB gzipped. All browsers are on board with supporting it. No, polyfills are not akin to frameworks, and yes, I am building a large SPA using just custom elements (no framework) and it's amazing.

Absolutely. React creates a dependency at the worst possible place, the view/component level. That's the one part of your code that should be the most re-useable. How many times do we have to re-write the same image galleries? The

I think this depends on the language. In languages where there is a de-facto standard framework, like Python & Django or Ruby & Rails, frameworks are very useful. Then slightly less useful in languages where there are many competing

No. Google and Bing can index JS apps just fine, however many social sites still don't pull the title/descriptions from dynamically generated pages when you click the sharing button.

I just switched from RethinkDB to Postgres as well, although my issues were more with NoSQL than RethinkDB specifically. With JSON support in PG, and the ability to let Amazon RDS handle DB admin/scalability, I don't see any reaso

Rambo II re-iterated the fiction that massive POWs were still in Vietnam. Watch the History Channel and you'll see almost no mention of agent orange, and none (that I've seen) would ever use the phrase "chemical warfare"
