My thoughts kinda echo this, but I don't think it's outlandish for a junior dev to know a lot of this - what's less reasonable is knowing it with enough depth that they can bring it all to bear without prep in an interview.

Highly recommend you check out The Great War series on Youtube. Even if you just watch the prologue to the war videos, very informative on how WW1 got kicked off. Short answer: nationalism and a lot of treaties and grudges from past wars.

Do a fair amount of Node and browser stuff on Windows. Use Sublime with a few plugins as my text editor, and git bash as my terminal, Chrome debugger when I really need it. Works pretty comfortably.
