There isn't anything to "take back" - other than Government sponsored monopolies or price ceilings/floors, the market is OPEN to you! There are many competent people building amazing companies, incompetent people getting paid well, competen

Well yes. Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder :) If you learn Erlang and understand it I think you would actually grow an appreciation for the why and how of its syntax. It's definitely an acquired taste. I'm also one of those people

Yes, this is a great article series, thank you for it!! (I only had a vague intuition of why Either was a sum type or why pairs are a multiplication type)

Erlang's syntax has little to do with its functional paradigm - you should just bite the bullet and learn functional programming if syntax is what you're worried about. If you are irritated by the idea/syntax implementation of pattern match

For those interested in compiling down to Javascript with a strongly and statically typed language, there's a brilliant proper subset of Haskell that compiles down to Javascript called "Fay": https://github.com/faylang/fay/wiki

See, that's pretty interesting - having that description you just gave me, alone, would interest a lot of readers.

It would be easier to make viral if you had an explanation of WHAT you are testing and maybe a funny cat video or little stick animation to play for the person after following your link...

This is off-topic; but I couldn't help notice your user name. My RL given name is "Parnell" and people often mis-pronounce it as "Pornell"...

TBH, I would guess that "brogrammers" actually comprise a very small number of trade show perpetrators due to the fact that they may generally have more social access to women outside of the work place. Many of the geeks I meet were and are

Profit is funny for the startup scene. When first starting out building my company, my co-founder and I were often focused heavily on "profit" when talking to VC's and pitching. At a demo day we had a meeting with a partner from a big fund

No one is reinventing functional programming, as another commenter said, purity is just one aspect of functional programming and unit testing is used heavily in functional programming projects. In languages like Haskell where the type sys

A CHANGES file is hugely overlooked by many projects. I've only recently started using it, but it's a great way to help other developers get a "gist" for what the latest version includes! Depending on your platform, a DEPS file is pretty

Well, what's great about WebDav and org-mode is that there's http://mobileorg.ncogni.to/ which is open-source and works with my org files . The problem with Gina's solution and any other solution is that the code is proprietary. I don't

Meh - bookmarks and the browser are, IMHO, a terrible platform for clipping information, knowledge, and data. I used to maintain an enormous bookmarks list with Delicious but ever since I matured my use of Emacs with org-mode that habit has

You're very wrong in that assumption. Don't get me wrong, I wasted 9 months of my life becoming completely absorbed by the game but it's so immersive that no other game can compare. It's about hoarding, alliances, corporations, mining ops,

"Build the backend once" is a silly notion; software is never static; neither the front-end OR the backend. I can appreciate the front-end-first philosophy, and can see it working well in an environment where you what to build something to

Your post is arrogant! That's okay though - I used to be arrogant too and assumed my code was "wizard like" while other people's projects were crappy and half-assed. Quality is often subjective. These days software is scratching an itch and

On the topic of languages and static analysis: You can do some static-analysis on languages like Ruby/Python but their lack of rigorous typing makes that job quite hard, actually. Then you have other languages, king of the hill being Hask
