Don't forget Erlang. For some reason a big part of HN thinks it's an unproven technology.

News from Herb Sutter -- cool. Rather subjective attack on "hostile templates" -- not cool.

I hold left shift with my pinky or right shift with my thumb. Unless I do a lot of all-caps typing it's not a problem.

It depends. E.g. IIRC in Poland there is a limit after which _software_ (not music etc.) becomes public domain.

Was the data allocated on stack or heap when using pointers? I would assume the later as it's not stated explicitely and perhaps there is something to win here for short-lived values.

I've had a bad experience with Unity, it would be too big of a switch. I doubt it would work on xp machines anyway.

What if HTTP page is mitmed and links to secure pages are replaced to point to somewhere else? It's all or nothing.

What other algorithms could use this improve their run times? Something with matrices?

If you're not careful and not on x86-likes, then reading serialized data like that unaligned values might cause errors.

Compiler has the freedom to use assumption that the code will never hit undefined behavior. To actually access the variable you have to hit undefined behavior.

When compiled with -O3 using g++ it returns 0 8. Compiler will use undefined behavior to optimize.

I don't see how C and Cython versions are different. It's almost word-for-word C.

You can write C in Haskell (I do sometimes, for SPOJ or something) if you really want. However, Haskell lets you say that something has no side effects, which is very useful for reasoning about programs.

OCaml's type system is not particularly sophisticated for a functional language, but it's still way ahead of Go. I can't see how Go's type are comparably sufficient.

I've been on XFCE on Debian since KDE 4 came out. Recently I had a fresh install and checked gnome out of curiosity and it turns out I'm too old-fashioned for this.

If you used synchronous replication. That's a hit for scalability. It's CAP all the way down if replication is asynchronous.

I think the problem might be also things that look like syntax to somebody who is not used to Haskell, but are just usual functions like ($) (<*>) ($!) and whatnot.

I'm a bit surprised that you say the syntax if offputting, most people I've met say otherwise. Could you point to something you specifically don't like?

I guess C++-like philosophy of "pay (with performance) only for what you use" applies here. If you're not using hstore/json/v8 it probably won't affect you. Also they keep doing solid work on the SQL front, jus

Perhaps this is about how nobody here (in Poland) actually expects that school will teach you important things. Everyone who actually wanted to learn something did it on their own, sometimes with help of the teachers outside of educational

Not being familiar with core.typed: does it support parametric polymorphism? Can you dispatch based on types (e.g. typeclasses)?

I hope it turns out better than optional typing for Erlang. I have frustrating memories of using it, which left me sceptic for optional typing features.

Latency on local network is at most a few ms most of the time. If they can squeeze input/output on 100 Mbps ethernet without much delay it should be good.

Many people trying to make "classic" RTSes miss critical points about feel and gameplay which makes the games very unsatisfactory to play for somebody who tried SC2 with its polished engine. Partnership with Day[9] might be just t
