Guess they have usage statistics to know a lot of their users are still on M1. My partner and I are both still on M1 (our personal machines) and don’t really see the need to upgrade.

Fair, but not on the same “something else” so Trump still had the majority share. I guess I’m more surprised by the low voter turnout. If you voted for Trump or didn’t vote at all, you are partly responsible for the mess being created lol.

Long time coming. The only one in my social group who still used it was my wife - and just for the function to call regular phones. Calling family in the US/MX from EU was pretty cheap with the Skype credit option.

Came to post the same. The mobile client still seems to work for me though but the electron client is down. Edit: the mobile client loaded messages but also fails to send.

Maybe not a super popular opinion on HN, but this effectively changes nothing for me. I love reading on my kindle, by far the most convenient way to buy and read books for me (esp when traveling often). It’s good that they are now being upf

I’m not sure - big tech is reversing their DEI narrative since the Trump election/ inauguration.

Yes, the “self help genre” might be more accurate. The author is painting in broad strokes for his post sadly.

Sounds more like the author just had bad experiences with non fiction? There are plenty of non fiction books which are good and where the book doesn’t just feel like filler. Some that come to mind quickly : - bad blood (about theranos) - SP

Mh fair point. I guess the terminology / actual use of the words will evolve over time as AI becomes ever more prevalent. I'll probably have the deepfake - image/video connotation for some time.

Interesting take, to me it is not so much about the type of coding (high vs low level) but more about the size of the project. Dynamic languages work great for scripting and rapid prototyping, but if you are working with a team maintaining

I had a different read of that point. More along the lines of “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water” (might have butchered that saying?). I’m also more in the FP camp - even wrote a book on the topic of FP. But I also acknowledge OO

Sure but those need to be understood within context. Obviously OP is not saying it was unilaterally better and the idea being commented on is just public lottery vs election. You can lift out that idea and apply our current understanding of

The field of science is too broad to capture in just 100 books without feeling like something is missing. E.g, one of the most important scientific achievements in my biased view would relate to computing (/ telecommunications) - but I

The article doesn’t mention how old the found skeleton is, or I missed it. Would be a huge coincidence imo given the large timespan, and perhaps more so an artifact of humans looking for similarities.

TIL! To me the word “portrait” makes me think “painting” as well.. I never would have guessed it refers just to what is being depicted rather than “how”. Thanks for sharing.

That is pretty cool. I tend to default to AWS, luckily not too expensive for my side projects (about $15/month) - nothing accessible to the public though so my cost is relatively predictable. That said, I do wish you could hard shutdow

The entire “freedom” thing in the US has some pretty funky “terms and conditions apply”. I am not sure if anyone actually thinks they are more “free” than other first world countries.

Interesting to see how quickly the US is going downhill. I’m sure everyone thought “the Roman Empire is too big to fail” yet here we are with a similar mindset about USA.
