I think you're both making good points here but just to clarify: I did not account for the interest that could've been earned on that $17k (which could conservatively be $1700, aggressively could've been another $17k). I also

So I have also meticulously kept track of my mileage, from January 2013 to November 2017 (my wife began driving it in November, and I didn't have an iPhone app to track it prior to 2013). The current average over that time frame is 36.

Ah, good point. I was referring to about $400 per set of tires including installation. My original post was unclear in that regard.

To help quantify this a bit - in 2008 I bought a brand new Honda Fit (cash) for about $17k. Has 120k miles on it now, very low maintenance, few repairs, definitely a budget/economy car. Over 10 years, another $600ish a year in gas (lif

Not to be picky, just an opportunity to inform - the word you're searching for is anecdote, rather than antidote. Also just while I'm here, normally I wouldn't point out spelling but, epitome.

Yeah - seems like it would be one of those things that you could allow the user to configure and they'd set it once and never again. I suppose you could switch your client to plaintext composition, but would be nice if there was a sett

I use the Option+Shift+Command+V all the time, especially in emails - that text that I copied from SAP or a Word doc invariably has bizarre formatting and if I Command+V paste it into my email, now the rest of what I type after it is going

Maybe we only hear about their frustration precisely because they don’t have the power to change things. “Leadership changed things for the better” isn’t much of a headline, it’s the expected/desired outcome.

I imagine part and parcel of this unhappiness is that it is taboo - you have to create a throwaway account or otherwise find an anonymous forum in which to express it.

As I mentioned elsewhere, Bezos was 29 when he quit his full time job and 30 when he wrote up the business plan for Amazon. I think that's close enough for this argument.

As an American who grew up in the US, I've only ever heard TBL cited as the inventor/father of the web (or sometimes internet), and have never heard of Vint Cerf before as best I can recall. Anecdata, for what it's worth.
