This is the most accurate answer so far re. The scaling laws. It has been demonstrated that LLMs follow quite clear power laws with respect to performance. In fact, the performance of any model can be determined from the number of parameter

This is an extremely useful design. I never thought I'd get excited about something like this but I recently moved to an old house with chimney flues running through every room, resulting in shallow alcoves that are of differing sizes.

This is an interesting one. It's on the top of a lot of lists but I remember some criticisms of it in the early editions. Are the later ones updated/corrected?

I can imagine it to be quite hard. However, I do think that it is possible to do studies that meet the 'good enough' criteria and that certain key points can be ascertained with high confidence (e.g. taking folic acid at the begin

This is interesting to me. Do you use a library to estimate the fourier series of a data series or have you implemented it from scratch? I've searched for this in the past but always got results RE. Fourier transforms, not series.

This looks really interesting and I hadn't really thought of this as a use case before. Does anyone here know if a similar product is available as an extension for VS Code? I know that I would love to be able to tell VS to just comment

You could also leave the company at any point, so why should they hire you? There's got to be some give and take in a relationship with an employer. If you're feeling exploited, you're not in the right role. And that will sho

HyperPhysics was a fantastic resource even during my studies in the 2010s. Despite the perceived "ugliness" of the format, I found it incredibly intuitive. The "chunking" of the formulas and physics into easily digestibl

I would reconsider. Interestingly, another post on the front page right now "Numbers every LLM developer should know" brings up the fact that this efficiency is due to the training corpus being in English. Any state actor with the

Someone earning $125k in London is in the top 1% of salaries. They would be able to quickly save up enough for a deposit. Not many 25 year old are making that, even in tech! The Median salary in the UK is around £34000 last I checked on the

Not at the moment. I have a few hypotheses that I'd I'd like to test and I've reached the bounds of what Colab can do.

I was thinking of going for a 3090 but wasn't sure whether it was worth it due to the price still being quite high, it would certainly blow my budget out of the water. What kind of models are you planning on using it for? AMD Ryzen 9 p

The problem with Colab is that I tend to run into two issues: 1. Disconnect during training 2. Not enough storage I tends to work on somewhat mid/large models and TB+ datasets so I run into these issues frequently enough that it's

How does pyenv compare with conda, mamba, pip and poetry? I typically use conda but ever since they broke with python 3.10 I have been considering moving to other environment managers.

Ursula Le Guin has a gift for punchy prose. I've also read The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness by her and her ability to come up with truly novel, unique storyline and views of the world is incredible.

I would have to say Bertrand Russell's The Problems of Philosophy. A short book, it covers the limits of knowledge and how to think about the world. Every time I read it I discover something new, and it would be a good companion guide
