The inequalities may be there, but even rather poor people (in the US) are quite rich in an absolute sense, at the moment. Radical green policies would cause real, tangible changes to people's lives; if you actually wanted to reach rea

They are not a big problem per se, but the message that sends is pretty bad. I think many people are worried about "green" policies exacerbating inequality, with the rich flying and doing what they want while the poor aren't

Not purposely, but the dominance of American tech does make it almost impossible for European competitors to arise. That's why the Chinese are hesitant about US tech.

The average salary is like 50k (with many positions going lower) and you are basically viewed as a manual worker.

How? Importing the H1B means that the skills and IP and other related stuff stays in the country.

Yeah, software is quite low status here and the salaries are often a joke.

They've also been doing it. There's tons of outsourcing companies in Europe and Asia. Many bigger companies have offices in those countries as well.

To people complaining about H1Bs, one thing to consider is that if importing workers is no longer an option, employers may think about remote work or offshoring, transferring jobs out of the country entirely.

* Swiss CO2 emissions (metric tons per capita): 4.17 * US CO2 emissions (metric tons per capita): 15.5 Switzerland is already among the lowest polluters in the EU and much lower than Australia/Canada/US. Just for context.

I wrote a path tracer in a compute shader. It was quite fun and much faster than the CPU version. Not trivial though; even such simple things as generating noise take at least some thought.

Nice. I took a CUDA course at uni where I built a neural network and a physics simulation. Optimizing them was very involved, but ultimately very cool; I learned a ton of stuff. I'd love to work with CUDA in practice, but there's

I never had any bad experiences with Amazon.de, actually. Though I do watch out to only buy genuine stuff and try to avoid off-brand. I buy stuff quite regularly too.

As always, it's supply and demand. DS is often not needed as much as SWE and there is a lot of supply for DS, due to hype and ease of transition from people in other fields.

US households are slightly bigger than European households (2.6 vs 2.2-2.3), but yeah, the US is on average much richer than most wealthier European states. A good comparison is states to countries - Germany is about the level of Alabama an

Depends on where and what you're looking for. I'd say 60k-80k€ would be normal rates in wealthier federal states for a decent "mid-tier" developer from what I've seen, which wouldn't be too dissimilar to 50k GB

The US is far richer than Europe, with an average GDP per capita of over 10000$ higher than most western European countries. Alabama is about as rich as Germany, for instance. So if Europe can do it, then the US could easily do it.
