I think those built-in RNGs should be treated like RDRAND on x86, you may mix them into the pool along with all the other sources of entropy your platform supplies, and then generate cryptographic streams seeded out of the pool. Using them

Do you have a guarantee that random() will give you the same sequence on different endians, on different libcs, on different 32/64bit arches, on different OSes or even dists? The expectation of reproducability is probably lost if you s

It will cost a cycle or three extra, but given the great cost to make syscalls in the first place (especially if you have to do flushes and mitigations for the 'recent' security bugs on x86) it probably won't matter much. 100

There are different types, which I think is buffers vs cache in top. The read caches would be fine but the delayed writes in ram are quite another thing. The one that eats your ram (the reason for the site to exist) would mostly be the read

I guess its not just indentation that matters here, but also if you can compare if strlen(szNotVeryImportantTemporaryStringWithSomeCharsInIt) > ui16MyConstantThatHoldsTheLenIThinkIsSuitable on one line or not, if you are limited to 80 ch

Ask yourself the opposite: Could there perhaps be a measurable difference if I am the only VM on the host, versus a ton of busy VMs next to mine?

Linux-m68k required a 68020/030+68x51 MMU, or a 68040/060 with built-in MMU.

Yeah, I didn't see the questioning as "is there really war someplace right now?" but rather "is there really a place where you (or your grandparents) can get bread and milk for bitcoins when normal money collapsed?"

How about being able to transmit data undistorted from A to B? I mean, it's not about emails must be ugly or must be read in white-on-black 80x25 terminals, it's about them not being distorted/broken on delivery. If you can&#

Might be a good idea to not use the phrase "kernel module" since it means something very specific (code you insmod on linux, kldload on fbsd and so on) which isn't supported on OpenBSD since 2014.

at the time, lots and lots of scripts would place things in /tmp/scriptname-$PID so you could race them, since you can know where it will write things, other scripts would use PID for random which is equally bad, especially for th

And I think it is rather obvious. Pledge lessens the amount of syscalls available to a program after it has called pledge(), so the threats it means to protect against is if someone tries to trick "ls" into opening a socket and do

Given that Apple survived m68k to ppc to x86 to x86_64 I think they may have the ability to predict the obstacles needed to win over and the price for it.

But that mostly means it wasn't ok (as in not faithfully emulating the hw bug) to begin with, and that it was super hard to fix, not that the VICE code rot'ed over time.
