I got an offer letter, but I've already got an offer elsewhere and will be leaving shortly. I'm not interested in picking up the pieces of the mess they've made. It just makes me very sad, my team was amazing and deserved b

I can't speak for the whole org, but my small corner of VMware got cut far more than was reasonable. We already ran very lean, and with the losses there will be no new features on our product for a very long time, if ever. Best we can

Echoing the other commenter, I'd be very interested but I can't find an email address to ping you. I'm a database geek and would happily rep your stuff!

This entire merger has been an absolute tire fire, and I sincerely hope it smooths out going forward. Not holding my breath, though.

Whether that's true or not, given the current circumstances of VMware I think "basically VMware but without Hock Tan swallowing it whole" is a compelling enough pitch to merit serious interest.

For my graduate algorithms course, this was by far the book that fit my brain the best. Can't recommend it enough.

It works quite well for OLTP too. It's just that a lot of engineering effort went into features to make it workable for olap, which admittedly means that those hours didn't go towards further improving OLTP features. Overall thou

You probably want to check out Greenplum for the postgres equivalent to this.

To add another point of anecdata, my experience very recently at tech companies aligns with the parent comment.

I, personally, consider the "Glory to our martyrs" banners to be pretty squarely pro-Hamas. Love the whataboutism though.

I'm not affiliated, but I've had my panels for 9 years (out of a 30 year support contract) and the company involved has been incredibly professional and supportive. If you're in the US Midwest and considering, I'm happy

I read the article, and the linked GitHub issue, and posted it. I'm curious if people who use this for a living and aren't some reporter pasting snippets agree with this framing. The variety of responses here now suggests many do

I'm curious whether those with more professional exposure to rust are concerned about this or think it's noisy for no reason? I'd also be curious if anyone has any good explanations as to why a choice like this would be made?

You ever see that old black and white picture of folks on the NY subway in the 1940s, all reading their own newspaper? Forcing conversation on random people you happen to be sharing a space with has always been psychopath behavior.

Because most of the projects I want to work on are in C. Postgres, the Linux kernel, lots of legacy systems stuff. All the foundations of our field are in C, so that's what I use when I want to contribute or study them.

I don't have a crystal ball any more than anyone else, but people are still making those salaries. The layoffs barely got us back to 2019 employment levels.

This snark has nothing to do with the fact that clearances are a pain and the money isn't there to justify dealing with that nonsense. But sure, go off about JavaScript or whatever.

I use notebooks and nested notebooks heavily. I've found that a directory-style structure works well for me, especially because the integrated search is also good if I forget where I put something. I have never personally had success
