I've worked at places where they would "solve" this problem by letting the build break while all the commit in various repositories land all at once. It's really bad.

I think your bubble might be very tech heavy. My wife (a millennial) and her friends buy things from ads All. The. Time.

I don't understand how WFH makes this different, if you can step out and go to the barber while WFH why can't you do it while you're in the office?

I want to note that Google indeed did that. G bought 56bn dollars of its own stock last year (which is equivalent to a 56bn dividend).

Yep. My previous company laid off so many people that were _clearly_ better than me. In multiple rounds too, it was horrible. I couldn't not stop looking behind my back I had to find a different job.

Unfortunately it could be that Twitter survives long enough to be handed off to a saner CEO which restores some sanity. I don't know how many non-tech people would notice if Twitter doesn't ship anything for a year.

But the thing is... in tech usually it doesn't work that way. A 15yr tenured L6 is most likely making less than a newly hired L6. Why would you fire the one with experience? I've seen so many of these coming form MS and Google

bail off to... where? Every single big tech has done layoff except Apple. Which fair you could go to Apple but then you have to deal with Cupertino and inflated bay area housing.

I never understood that either, maybe redbook doesn't have a strict error correction like data CDs have? That's the only thing I can think of but that seems weird though.

What you're saying doesn't make sense. If prices had actually doubled there would have been a big spike in inflation in Italy around the time of adoption of the Euro, which there wasn't: https://www.macrotrends.net

The founder guy who complains about not been able to fire people that easily and at the same time that people don't care too much about the mission of the team is just too much for me. I'm glad he doesn't work at G anymore.

Meh. I used to compete on CS and Math problems and I passed the interview for a lot of big tech companies (senior and staff levels) and I don't think at any of them I could pass the interview if I truly had never seen even a variation

Ideally incident handling should "just" be rolling back the broken change. Fixing the problem should be done in the morning with no time pressure, not in the middle of the night half asleep with customers on the other side of the

That's inaccurate. VP is a really high title, most likely your manager's manager is Sundar Pitchai or someone who reports to him. TC is in the millions of dollars for those people.

Pay at big tech companies is well known, we were competitive with that. No out-of-pocket healthcare costs actually. 14wk parental leave for both parents, unlimited sick days, 20 days PTO, something like 15 holidays etc. Not a scam.

Or they just hire everybody else's employees? Anecdotally, we tried to hire during the past few years as a mid-sized, well known tech company, pretty much nobody showed up. It got so bad we had to stop giving coding tests because nobod

Retro hardware is available, and maybe it's not too expensive, however retro hardware _with_ HDMI or otherwise clean digital output? not so cheap. A good HDMI scaler is hundreds of dollars, plus you need RGB-modded consoles to get good

Ah that's the catch, I didn't get anxiety from Adderall so that wasn't a problem. As others have said, I would try some other medication if possible at all, they really do help.

For high earners it's still higher in EU, about 50% vs 40% but yeah it's not that significant.
