I don't think Amazon is likely to succeed in "pulling an Apple"; what I do see is a way to "pull an iTunes". Amazon is already a trusted retailer with financial resources. This will allow them to better curate an app store. Adding a hardwar

I think that subset can be profitably ignored; evidence: Apple.

On a more realistic note, I've often thought that combining hacker/maker spaces, good digital libraries and some communal living would make an excellent, low-cost fellowship for people looking to experiment for a couple of years. Related as

Well, that's kind of the thing: it's not so much "customer-facing" as "geek-facing". It doesn't really do the customer much good at all except tell them that their service sucks or, contrary to their experience (why else are they looking?),

This is a little jumbled to me and it has the glaring problem that what I really want, to see what my usage looks like, whether that's an issue and an easy way to fix it, simply does not appear. It's certainly an interesting thing for the c

Doesn't quite change anything and may actually make it worse since it would have rendered ay claim by an Apple employee that they were police or somehow acting in an official capacity more believeable.

Don't underestimate the fact that expensive foreign branded products are considered prestigious. That may have more to do with why Baidu's OS is copypasta than anyting else.

It's perfectly acceptable. In my experience, it's better to exchange money for labor in certain cases because it helps to define an activity away from the friendship and so prevents it from becoming precedential.

In line with what I've been saying here in every CEO discussion.

The problems people note are solvd if you issue a patent free for a short time, like 3 years, and then auction a much smaller number of extensions to that term. This creates a pricing maximum for years 4 to whenever.

This. I first did programming when I was 11, using BASIC on our first computer; it was not an encouraged hobby. I only programmed regularly when I got a TI-83. But this is just to emphasize your point about technology access as children and

Consider that a lot of us don't like Facebook and use it only grudgingly, if at all. I use it solely as an address book, it's practically never updated; I largely retain it as a service to others who have lost/forgotten my contact info.

I set up a standing configuration yesterday by putting a side table atop my desk and it's been great. If I keep liking it, I'll do a more complete solution that actually costs me money.

The blog spam charge makes me wonder about blog formats. On Google+, I basically run a share plog most of the time. One or two lines of comment, usually why I think it is worthy of a read or a quick summary of main points. What exactly qual

Just a possibility: HP is a large company with deep pockets, it can likely afford to sell TouchPads at a loss for quite a while. That would give them time to work out bugs, recoup some in apps and find a less costly manufacturing process (o

I think this is because a lot of the file swappers were actually pretty broke. Teenagers don't all simply hemorrhage cash from every poor, only some do. The rest were burning CDs for friends and later downloading off Napster.

I never understood how the music industry survived the period between Napster and iTunes when not a single song was sold. Any way, the article is wrong. Jobs contribution here was to persuade record companies to let people download music. P

This sort of thing is weird to me. I don't have a problem with these services, but the whole "this changes everything" meme has got to stop. We've been through this every decade since, I imagine, the printing press. We still have designers,

I don't find this to be a meaningful reply. Hiring people is important, sure. So is maintaining cash flow. So is accounting. So is marketing. Etc. But all these things are only important because . The CEO is the head of because ; if that'

This discussion is dumb. To begin with, CEOs don't all do the same thing. To end with, it's only a certain sort of CEO people don't like. In reality, the CEO is just the top level person in an organization. The most important task the compa
