My altruism was eroded by life experience. I can't quite bring myself to actively screw others over, but I'm definitely not the 'good person' I once was. Maybe true altruists are more resilient - but they're also mu

For a professional, that's a few days of work. Nice stealth brag (: I'm an intermediate dev in a first world country with a salary that locals would call good. That's over a months work for me.

Right, it's probably not a good idea from a pure performance perspective. But people aren't always rational.

Apologizing and taking responsibility is a sign of good character, not a sign of weakness. A lot of people disagree with you, and see it as a sign of weakness. Often those people have a lot of influence over your career.

So much this. Altruistic, considerate people who hem and haw over how their decisions effect others grossly over estimate other human beings. Take a walk along the side of a high speed road and look at all the garbage thrown there. People d

That's the meta game, where the author of the game enjoys building the game as its own game. Not productive if you're trying to ship a game, but definitely sounds fun. It's hard to stay focused on building a shippable produ

I think it's deeper than just 'programmers today'. It's an important life lesson for people pre-disposed towards niceness to learn. Most people aren't thoughtful or considerate or fair. They just want to maximise be

I'll charitably assume I'm being down-voted more because of how short and dismissive my remark was than anything else. Truth be told that's all I think the likes of the NYT deserves. Even the POTUS calls it "Failing New

Yes it was more a joke about the terrible quality of code produced by physics. Obviously they write stuff that works for some bizarre value of 'works'. Of course this being HN everyone took it super seriously ;)

This is a classic case of not understanding micro services and trying to fit a problem around a tool. This sentence needs to be repeated for everything on the 'wrong end' of the hype curve. This is a classic case of not understa

What annoys me most about that show is that 3 physicists and a mechanical engineer are often shown writing working software. That's rarely the case.

mithril should be the default choice for everyone. no compiler, no file format, no commandline tools, comes with its own router and request functions, and is 8kb.

I started out with vue, but found it too heavyweight and clunky. A viewmodel framework shouldn't need its own god damn compiler or file format. I ended up switching to mithril.js, which is much smaller than vue and comes with its own r
