I can't wait to see the next innovation, that is orthogonal to the scaling laws, that will cause the next leap in LLM performance.

In these fast moving early times of LLMs, they can maintain this advantage with simple things like proprietary datasets and greater compute. The difference in quality between the best model that can be made with such proprietary utilities a

That makes sense. It definitely read like a university project to me. One idea is "Transformers, analogous to general purpose computers" although that doesn't mention the meat of the article. "Transformers from scratch,

The title is a little misleading. The post makes an analogy between a turing machine and a transformer and and expands on that analogy a bit. The substance of the article is an explanation of the design of a standard transformer. It does n

There was a missed opportunity in not naming the article "Shedding Light on the Shadow DOM".

Yes, X-shot prompting or X-shot learning was how the pioneering LLM researchers referred to putting examples in the prompt. The terminology stuck around.

You can get very cheap tesla P40s with 24gb of ram. They are much much slower than the newer cards but offer decent value for running a local chatbot. I can't speak to the ease of configuration but know that some people have used these

The bill seems to be targeting certain types of social media platforms. I'm not sure everyone is at risk. What small/medium sites do you have in mind? HN doesn't seem to be a target for example.

Your question assumes that interacting with social media is a first ammendment right which I don't think is the case. Not sure though. That's likely the reason for the downvotes. Your comment also has a bit of a "muh free spe

Financial inventives and disincentives like these are used effectively all over the world. The govt would not be doing this to get a piece of the pie. It's doing it to stop the practice. A proper fine would probably be more effective t

Very interesting, thanks for showing me. Messing with the code, it fails if you access mut1 before the mutation of mut2 because of the mutable borrow. I did know but forget that all variables are dropped at the end of a scope, not earlier.

The quote betrays a slight misunderstanding of non lexical lifetimes. The two borrows happen in separate implicit scopes. The first borrow is only valid until the second borrow is made. At that point it's dropped. So the two mutable re

It's true but other risks are usually discrete. PFAS exposure continously decreases your health while driving a car has no effect on your health until you get into an accident. The risk calculation feels different in those cases.
