I haven't really been following this but there have been rumblings all week that a hacked firmware was released that allowed anyone who installed it, and twiddled with some other things, access to the PSN development and testing network. An

I am flabbergasted there isn't more going on in this space. I am sitting mere feet from a tv, I am holding an iPad, why do I have to pick up a remote. As for Kinnect there are some obvious, and probably useless gestures you could implement

Agreed, there are a boatload of moving pieces. Throw in a work queue and there are even more. A "full stack" like using ASP.NET MVC,EF and IIS will get you to a dirt simple app pretty quickly but it still feels like too much for what you ar

Thats a lot of effort to put into getting a rails developer. Just imagine if you needed two or three. I particularly like the last rule. Never hire anyone who claims to be a rails developer, hire an erlang dev and you are set!

Oh god, that is the worst. I have seen this plenty of times. Boss won't give direction because either he is intimidated or, he is the "idea man" who shouldn't have to be bothered by implementation. It's fine if you want the dev to just wing

Nice, I have been trying to sell Redis as a replacement for a very specific usage of ms SQL server. A tacit endorsement by StackOverflow has gone a long way towards legitimizing it for some of our management.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I will see the staffing firms send me back the same developers, but now they will be Ruby experts. Maybe this is less about .net/other languages and more about what makes development so terrible in large corporations. B

I had a lot of problems with that article as well. But I'd still like the give the author the benefit of the doubt. I assume he has very narrow experience with some framework like webforms or ran into some developers who did. With a lot of

I see some of the .net hate starting to seep into the corporate world as well. I work as a .net developer for a very large corporation and there is more and more talk of re-implementing production applications in Python. The perceived probl

I am asked to give estimates all the time, sometimes based on something like "A guy down the hall says it crashed, how long will it take you to fix." or "Bob wants a portal site". So I've come up with a method that works for me. Add togethe

You can't even guarantee people with a CS degree know any of that stuff. In my experience, many of the people I've worked with that had CS dregrees had forgotten that stuff long ago, if they ever knew it. The people answering on Quora are p

I'm not sure what to think about Google's hiring practices. The ones I've met were normal guys, but everyone makes it seem like they are running some sort of Einstien era Institute fo Advanced Study over there. I've got to say, knowing basi

Not surprising. That is a list of things 99% of working developers do not do on a daily basis. And I'm not sure most of that will help 99% of developers on a day to day basis. I once had a project to extract customer contact information fro

Right, I don't have to implement a queuing system because a guy down the hall did it. But he sunk his budget into developing it and I get to swoop in and benefit. That is not a bad thing, that is how corporations are supposed to work, it wo
