An example from long before IDEs existed: DECtalk (a very early text-to-speech voice synthesizer from circa 1988) with the standard text editors and the command line.

While I understand your comments and that this can get hairy, also consider a softmodem-like implementation as a counter-example. A softmodem (variously also called a Winmodem) is a partial or full software implementation of a modem, and he

It's certainly a balance. Think too about the "crippling long-term debt" on the other side of the contract, too. Loans are built on standard contract law. There are penalty clauses and associated costs with exiting the contract, and you (f

Then why not connect all those thoughts together? If it was so easy and if the hardware was so widely available and if the stuff here is a commodity and if user interface design and fit and finish was so easy, then why is Apple the bunch t

Analogous to mandatory access control security, though labeling objects (outside of a compiler) isn't particularly new, and keeping a multilevel-enabled server from getting its access tangled is not a trivial undertaking.

Apple plays a long game, and they're not afraid to toss stuff under the bus. Now consider what these Apple engineers might now be working on, if not Oracle's Java and JVM pieces. Some language past Java? A replacement for Objective C? B

For what looks to be a GTD-focused app (guessing?), the website description is surprisingly lackadaisical; rather far away from a GTD-focused package. Six web pages into a pretty (and slow) web site, and I still can't sort out why I'd even

Reducing the traditional ten-button numeric keypad for entering your access code can be simplified for law enforcement use by removing nine of the buttons. Unfortunately, this LE optimization also eases the effort required by the burglars.
