At the proprietary trading group where I work, the three core developers own the company. And we care greatly about the code quality, as it is our money on the line.

The trades actually came off a DJ Newswire headline and not the tweet, but it doesn't change the point of the article.

This post is too pessimistic. If this startup gets to a $1b valuation, you will likely have some avenues towards liquidity. 10x dilution would be extreme.

Can anyone comment on the technical architecture this kind of system uses? I assume data flows are TCP instead of UDP? As soon as you let anyone pause or skip you need to be streaming different data to each client.

Pick up some local nights & weekend work on Craiglist. You want $5k in 2 months, that means you need to charge $50/hour and work 15 hours/week for 7 months.

I'm surprised and impressed that they were in Uber's B round. It isn't uncommon for firms to invest in late stages of huge successes so they can list the firm as an investment; but B round is actually taking risk.

I'm 41, grew up playing with my Dad, who is now 74 and my Grandfather. He was a straight pool player from Missouri, usually called it 14-1. My best run is 17.

From looking at market volumes, I think a skilled group using trading software could probably sell a few million USD worth of bitcoin per week without giving up a huge edge. But I agree that this is one of the few ways to get liquidity on a

They didn't include any discussion of: 1) execution (are they expecting to buy on the bid and sell the offer?). 2) commissions. They only made 3,362 yuan on 2,872 trades. A yuan is about 12 cents, so they are making 15 cents USD per

My concern is that the investor doesn't understand what is happening. Someone goes out to hit a bid, but actually a prop group has paid to see their intention before it goes to the market, and can choose to participate or not. But I&#

I run a ~15 person prop group in Denver and we have access to the fastest connections on the routes we care about. Paying a retail broker for flow is distasteful to me, I'd rather compete in the marketplace for edge.

You are correct on all counts. a) we have more than 10 people in our 4,000 square feet. b) we have lots of extra space. c) we pay well, most people make more than $10k/month.

Those rents are insane. I run a HFT firm in the suburbs of Denver, and we have a beautiful office on a golf course for $20/square foot. For a 10 person firm using 4,000 square feet, that is an extra $20k per month, which could hire y
