I really enjoyed this book, I'd recommend it as a first read into stoicism over meditations. He gave some really great examples of how to apply stoicism in today's world.

I think that says more about your friend than it does the book. When I read the book back in high school I felt it was less, how can I manipulate people, and more, how can I become someone people enjoy being around. Is your friend on the sp

One of the authors of HTDP also won a teaching award and it seems they really put a lot of thought into the pedagogy of programming.

Yeah, it would be nice to be able to click an age and drag through other ages, or even a ctrl+click type of selection to get a bulk list of advice.

It seems to me people were more upset with the conference organizers allowing him to submit the talk knowing he was going senile, though I don't know the full story or whether or not he was going senile.

Paul Graham wrote an essay on this exact question. I read it while in high school but only after years later aimlessly wandering through life did the words pierce my soul. I'd say read this: http://paulgraham.com/hs.htm

Would you say that web development is an easier barrier to entry than most other sub fields?

Yeah that's what I figured, if I had something lined up the decision would be easy. I'm very used to running away from things that are "hard" relatively speaking. I guess it will be worth finishing just to finishing some

Ha, I'd say 4 in 10 is quite a lot of people that hate math...so in that sense it is a majority. It's more people than I'd like, that hate math.

Look into artofproblemsolving.com as well. They have online classes for math that are very enjoyable. It's a great supplement to the horrendous math curriculum in schools.
