I find editing text is easier than writing from blank, this would (if it works) give me a starting condition to them edit from which is helpful.

This is actually the logic for just burying plastic: it doesn't degrade on any important timescale. Acts as a carbon sink, and keeps it out of everything. Winning all around.

The problem arises where an account gets verified as one thing and then changes to become another, this happens all the time with trolls who can make/buy/extort verified accounts. They then spoof being the real person, and verific

My naive guess is that most floating point code uses FP32 and FP64 uses at least double the die size. So optimize for FP32 and have some FP64 for the rare equations that need it.

I think the previous comment was referring to that the people with weak immune systems/severe allergies don't make it to adulthood. And so of course in clean environments where they survive there is a higher population of people w

Risky Business posited last week on their podcast that since Operation Aurora[1], where China hacked a bunch of companies, Google has just pulled out their checkbook to ensure that it never happened again. And it seems like they have succes

For small but significant amounts (less than like 10k) it is significantly simpler to just get a bankers check for moving money between accounts between banks. Walk into one branch, get a check, go to the other branch, money moved! Definite

In junior year of HS (US) my teachers forced us to sit down and actually write out a budget for our expected wages and then run some years of expenses month by month. That was very eye opening and I think would still be relevant in 8 years.

Anecdote time: I currently live in Texas, the closest grocery store is a hour walk. While living in Colorado it was a hour and a half, and in Florida it was 2 hours, all of these where easy 5 minute trips by a car and an excursion by foot.

Internet English has different "regional variety" than real life, for example I have litterally never heard "grok" in real life but I read it here fairly often.

This [1] may help but I'm wholely unfamiliar with the field. A guy at Defcon did a talk about how HAM radio in Florida allocates their bandwidth and goes into the nitty details of propegation. [1] https://youtu.be/fH-yy

The school I help at has these metal chairs with plastic inserts for the final inch of the leg. One leg will regularly snap off enough that they cut the rest of them off at the wood shop and put them back in the classroom, it's kinda f

I do a similar thing, just listing off the date and time and just kinda writing whatever comes to mind. If I may ask what does the 1326 come from? It's like a year but I cant recognize the system.

Would be interesting to make "virtual windows" where you take a camera on the hull and just stream its feed to like the in-flight entertainment system or a wall mounted monitor.

(I mentor highschool students) I have seen it a lot more of "why even try because our quality of life is going into the toilet" and less of "we are all going to die"

This sounds like skill stacking which you summarized very well. I'll just leave some links to what relates to skill stacking which I found interesting [1] https://michelleockers.com/2019/12/02/skill-stack

This seemed like marketing speak to me so I went looking for research on it. I found something which was interesting: For instance, the addition of Sc and Zr to 6061 alloy shows a slower ageing response at 190 °C, resulting in lower yield s

The tritium interacts with a phosphor through beta decay, so presumably if you hung a watch near it the phosphor would glow brighter with higher concentration of beta decay. Basically a sort of visual Geiger counter.

As someone who has been trying to convince hiring managers of this very thing (dual major in electrical and mechanical engineering) it's harder than it sounds to find a job that crosses the bridges. Just my two cents.

They probably don't have access to a welder and so they can't weld. It looks like they have a router table and a sheet metal bender so that's what they used to make it.

I would love to not have to put a generator in my truck and just run stuff off the battery. It wouldn't replace it in all circumstances, but I would switch from always lugging around a generator to pulling it out when I need it.

The one that comes to mind for me is Tenga Topa Guerren Lagan, but most shonen shows have a plot arc of getting defeated and coming back at some point. The other one is Steins;Gate but that one is deep into the show.
