Avid is not exactly transparent and it's extremely difficult to see what their long-term plans are. We can only speculate. The most convincing theory I've heard regarding Apple Silicon is that they may need a new hardware interfac

The customer might want to buy a product, and the studio might want to make it, but isn’t there someone they forgot to ask? Business models that are lower-risk and higher-return are systematically preferred by investors. Games are expensive

The "no longer works" comment clearly refers to the business model, ie. ignoring the quality or popularity of the product itself and just looking at the balance sheet. The gambling (microtransaction) model is enormously more profi

The editor has been developed alongside the engine, and has been one of its distinguishing features, for quite some time. What they added here was the ability to run the game inside the editor, instead of having to switch between them.

The whole Haxe ecosystem flies under most people's radar, partly because it evolved from what was once the Flash ecosystem. It never really qualified for the kind of "NEW SHINY THING" announcement that creates hype elsewhere.

Lots of Russian companies are nominally headquartered in Prague. Reveal Sound is another example off the top of my head. There are certain advantages for companies that want to do business internationally.

You could approach this idea from the opposite direction: Put all essential jobs under military jurisdiction. There's real-world precedent illustrating some of the ways this would (and wouldn't) work.

Would you mind elaborating on what complaints you mean? Blender has had multiple major UI overhauls in the past few years, and changed a lot of basic command assignments in the process. They even moved selection from the right mouse button

There’s all kinds of silly names they could borrow from stories hypothesizing its existence. Nemesis, Nibiru, Vulcan, and Planet X, just for starters. But in all likelihood it will end up as something much more anodyne.

According to other posts, this won’t support Vega graphics; RDNA1 is the absolute minimum, with RDNA2 being the oldest architecture officially supported. Guess we’ll have to wait for new APUs to see how this fares.

The “total flight distance” refers to the entire trip, eg. from Shenzhen to Albuquerque, but that involves multiple flights aboard multiple planes. Using Anchorage as a hub allows them to reduce the length of the longest flight.

For a few years now I’ve wished for this kind of thing. After I sketched out a couple of concepts, the approach that looked most viable was to build a folding keyboard case where the lid opens up into a tablet stand. This hugely reduces the

It seems like a general-purpose message that nodes can send to neighboring nodes, so they can be activated in response to input events, clock cycles, and so on. In other contexts you might call it a "pulse" or a "tick."

If you want to back an open source engine that’s already very mature and has a big community, you want Godot. It’s not written in Rust, but it supports an FFI API that allows you to write your game logic in Rust. The killer feature that set

You've got plenty of scientists as company. There are cute names like WIMP and MOND for different types of hypotheses about what the heck dark matter actually is, or how to explain what's going on if it doesn't exist at all.
