This has been mentioned frequently. Whether it is the case or not, we can do little more than donate a few bucks to the likes of Demand Progress and EFF.

Reading the comments on here and many other places about global warming, it makes me sad that nobody is open-minded enough to entertain the possibility that an increase in the Earth's temperature could be a positive-sum change. We know very

Couldn't Sony do something like the iPhone? The device could get a refresh every year or every six months, while all of the games would keep working on it.

In my opinion those who wasted their time on the gadget were people who already had time to waste. When I saw it what I did was pass my mouse over it, think it's neat, wonder about the technology behind it for a second, then get back to wor

But doesn't a rich client need a platform, the browser being one of them? The rest are proprietary platforms like iOS. If the browser platform is not around in 10 years, I hope that means it has gotten superseded by a more powerful open pla

I wonder if NOT NOT IN would have solved it since he mentions the problem doesn't exist for NOT IN.

I wonder if publicly calling yourself a hacker could be used as proof by law enforcement that you admit to engage in illegal activity.

Exactly what I was thinking. I expect the assumption is that male users are the security threat that females need to be protected from.

I agree. If I made a robot that could follow musical notes and play the guitar perfectly, would anyone describe its playing the guitar as 'creative'? I hope not. This is a lab-like situation where we can know for sure that the robot is usin

We need to reach a definition of creativity before we can have any discussion about whether an activity is creative or not. A good definition I found somewhere is that creativity is the ability to create solutions for a problem, any kind

I wonder if a system that weighed upvotes based on the commenter's karma would make things better. The top 10% (or 50%) of users could get full upvoting capability, while the rest can give a fraction of an upvote based on their location on

The reasoning in that line shows the classic misunderstanding that has led us here. As Taubes says, saying you get fat because you eat too much doesn't explain anything. Of course you need to eat more calories that you expend to gain weight

Mentioning a comment he made somewhere else to discredit him is clearly an ad hominem, even if your attack on Chomsky wasn't. Chomsky is wrong on a lot of things. That in no way makes him wrong about everything.

It seems like the US is just adding this to its list of excuses for attacking other countries when it sees a benefit in doing so. They can no longer effectively use the WMD bogeyman, so a new one is needed.

One problem is the word 'expert'. When does one become an expert? I had a teacher who said you can't call yourself an economist if you don't have a PhD. PhD's may work for some fields, but not for programming, for example.
