It's pretty much the same here in the UK, carriers tend to dictate conditions which the manufacturers must adhere to, except for Apple of course.

The link in TFA takes you to a torrent freak article that explains it all with links http://torrentfreak.com/and-when-even-the-death-penalty-does... From the article: "The King responded by introducing penalties for pirating these fabrics

I'm confused, what is wrong with talking about a first world problem? and what do you mean by "Are we biased against Marco.org"?

"empirical evidence and the scientific knowing of reality" Not sure what you mean by this, do you really believe that science validates a specific view on what constitutes reality?

I'm not a dev, but doesn't Apple's Open CL come into play here? is there silicon in iDevices in addition to the GPU which can be used for HW acceleration, whereas Android can only make use of the GPU for this?

With all due respect, I disagree. This book was widely anticipated and given the unprecedented access that Isaacson had to Jobs' family and Apple execs past and present, this book was mediocre at best. Personally I was really looking forwar

AFAIK. Michael Jackson owned the publishing rights to the Beatles songs, not the Beatles recordings. Basically the sheet music rights, royalties when Beatles songs are played on a jukebox or the radio or someone does a cover version of a Be

"In that context Gates is right" I disagree because Jobs/Apple looked at the xerox stuff and improved on it, drop down menus, overlapping windows etc. Whereas Microsoft just copied what Apple had done, bringing no new ideas to the table.

"Yes, but the Courier was leagues beyond anything you can do with an iPad" With all due respect, the courier was not a shipping product, the video mockups were cool, but to compare a successful shipping product with a vapourware concept vid

I aslo had experiences which made me a much more open and eclectic person. I was about 23 years old and found the experiences to be overwhelmingly positive. At the time (70's) the counter culture was well underway and there were many fellow

Steve Jobs is a Buddhist. Buddhists believe that charitable giving should be done anonymously. For all we know SJ could be giving a lot to charities and other worthy causes, but as a Buddhist he will keep this to himself.

I would class myself as an advanced user, not a developer but someone with interest and enthusiasm for technology. The main reason that I visit HN is that for me, the level of debate is higher. Far less fanboyism and trolling than most tech

Not sure if you're being ironic here, but I'll assume you're not - iPhone DOES run OSX, but with those parts removed that are not required for the device, it's not Mac OSX, but it is OSX

I disagree that Apple have a low-risk strategy, remember the iPod mini? this thing was wildly successful and yet Apple killed it and replaced it with the nano. I can't think of another company that would take that kind of risk. And although

The same argument could be made for music made with a sequencer or recording to hard disk (pro tools), endless undos. The "print out" equivalent is bounce to disk (render). Do you think great art can't be made this way? if so. you've got to

But he's right, can you name another tech firm that cares as much about these things? I remember reading something a while back about how much time Apple spent on getting the angle (directon) of the mouse pointer right on the original Mac.
