Two articles now I try to access the content at archive.ph and cannot make it past the Captcha. I've disabled uBlock Origin and that seems to make no difference. Is anyone else seeing this and if so, have a solution? (Firefox 117.0.1 (

IANAGCE (I am not a GC expert.) I thought there were potential costs to using GS. 1. Interrupting the program to sweep, resulting in unpredictable performance. 2. Possibility that a circularly linked group of variables could be impossible t

Isn't the cost of the equipment and sophistication required to operate the biggest barrier to entry? How would open sourcing change that?

If I switch from VS Code to VSCodium, will I notice anything different - assuming the telemetry is not really visible to me and I ignore the branding? Will the plugins - some provided by MS - still work as expected or will those be blocked

Oxen are herbivores which need to eat a lot more to provide the necessary nutrition and that would translate to greater volume. OTOH chickens are smaller animals with greater surface area to mass and might require more energy to maintain bo

Is this in the US? I was surprised I could find no mention of the NTSB. At Tesla's first attempt to reject a warranty claim I would have at least been thinking about filing an incident report.

Yes, and then traffic will be halted for hours while the incident is investigated.

Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of ZFS. ZFS is much more than just a filesystem and related tools. It also supports backup/restore and disk partitioning and partitioning of data via filesystems (not AFAIK available with EXT4.) And prob

Have you used sanoid/syncoid? I started my ZFS journey with a custom script and then switched to syncoid/sanoid (and some much simplified scripts) for my backup needs. One of my use cases is for Raspberry Pis which seem to have a

Not likely. A snapshot just marks the most recently written block and prevents previous blocks from being altered. (More or less.) Since ZFS is copy on write, any changes to files will involve the same writes and some previously written dat

The key to battery life/health on the XPS is to use the BIOS functions to limit charging. My XPS-13 9370 has been plugged in most of its life (about 4 years now) and battery health has dropped from 96% to 93%. I can't speak to the

I always thought that it was a bad decision that Windows tracked time as local time. IMO they got it wrong right from the get-go. It made more sense to me to track time in an unambiguous manner(*) like seconds since midnight January 1. 1970

I've often thought that code should tell a story about what the system is supposed to do and if the story is not clear, that will probably be reflected in a system that does not work well.
