I wonder how aging populations and large-scale language models are going to change the difficulty of this problem. It seems to me that we're just about to unlock 1-to-1 learning, without actually needing 1 teacher per child. It isn

The real question however is why? I don’t see any real benefit to doing this, unless it’s fashionable in some social circle, or if all of these people want to build singing/acting careers.

To answer your first point, I'm assuming 4 days a week presents itself as a good compromise between worker happiness and productivity given our level of technology and efficiency. Two or three days of work a week would be better for ha

I'll be the first to say the unpopular take on HN: I don't think Windows 95 looks that good (compared to today). I personally find more modern (like MacOS 10) styles to look the best, and flat designs to be just as usable as more

Compared to "normal" industries, this and the cake designer suit [1] really are a different ball-game, because of the speech implications as well as discrimination. On the one-hand, this is very close, if not exactly the same as a

I think this only applies to some things, not others. If you're in the 95th percentile of high-school students, then you're probably getting into a good university. For university, the 95th percentile is enough to get into medicin

I don’t know why, but this makes me feel a bit optimistic about the future, at least in western societies. Our current worries about inflation, the degradation of the middle class, and stagnant wages seems to be more a product of moving to

I've noticed its also quite warm here in Canada too: It's only snowed twice so far (in Toronto), and melted after one day. It usually starts snowing right after Halloween, but thus far, we've had only slush-type snow come in

One skill that other people haven't mentioned, but is incredibly useful: keeping up with people. Even if you talk to everyone you meet, and get 5 phone numbers a day, if you don't actively plan things and hang out with them, you c

Note, this is mainly in BC. Canada is incredibly large, with many different climates. So while BC is suffering from these heatwaves, places like Montreal are at 20C and low humidity.

You can basically remove Ottawa, Kitchener, & Halifax from that list; they’re essentially small towns with one big attraction. Calgary & Edmonton are basically the same city too anyways.

You don’t even need to wait in most circumstances. If your family still lives at the same residence, and you remember to keep for health card up to date, you can most likely get service as if you never left.
