The field of Economics has been attempting to answer that for a rather long time. I don't mean to be glib - it turns out to be a damnably hard problem that's been battled by thousands for centuries. There's easily enough modeling, math, a

And a competition with only one competitor is Solitaire. Unfortunately, these types of large markets play continuous/repeating games, not one-shots. Ideally, consumers wouldn't want to waste the time it takes for a monopoly to become compl

The extra detail is awesome. Being able to see the individual bolts, the decals, and other reference points makes the image far more real than the low-res version. Without those details, it's just a cute publicity shot of tax dollars in a

Note that there is a difference between trade secret and a cool idea you have. If you have an idea that has been implemented, it's a really smart plan to keep it secret: if the idea's found out, your competition will also likely know how v

I'm embarassed to say the same. I had forgotten about this Kickstarter, so I thought this was some sort of MRI-supercomputer backup plan, like cryostasis. Personally, I'd prefer to blame my mental auto-correct. So used to seeing poor / si

My take on it is that it's being used to subsidize SolarCity. If the charging stations really are break-even in operating costs, then it could be a viable plan. At the least, I'd guess the stations are much cheaper than traditional gas st

Would it be reasonable to think of these expletive redacted botnets as a force of nature? As something useful to harden resources against, or just disasters that you hope don't hit? (I'm thinking of this in terms of sour grapes, not poo

Like spam, botnet operating costs may be so low that hardly anyone at all may need to succumb to make the operation pay off. Someone's likely to cheat and pay to make the pain go away eventually.

Exactly what I'm looking for. I'm putting a sensor package together for my Dyna, and mounting a display and securing parts is a bit of a problem if you don't have a tool shop. And given Harley's reputation for cost, this printer may actua

Less on topic, but more on the picture: I was wondering about that image. Something struck me as off. And then I realized that the computer had a steering wheel. So for those interested, yes, it _is_ odd for a computer to have a steering

It's more of a footnote problem. The critical details need to percolate up to public focus, and if that detail was only mentioned as a side note at the end, then that process is obviously failing. The scary bit is that the Challenger inve

While I certainly don't think college debt is quite indentured servitude (you certainly can leave work while still in debt), it's worth noting that US bankruptcy laws are specifically not generous with student loan debt. It's very rare to

Is there any other music player with a media library organizer as excellent as Winamp's? I don't mean that contentiously, but rather I just haven't enjoyed any other. Enter text into the search box, and it will filter simply massive playl

I'll confirm I didn't get a timely response after purchase, but the key retrieval form seemed to work. Likely I just missed the pulse.

I remember as a kid going to Space Academy in Huntsville, AL. A camp counselor told us how the engines came to find a home at the Rocket Park of the Alabama Space and Rocket Center. NASA had placed the Saturn V on tour to show off this am

Hear, hear. There are so many ways you can do this. It's fast, easy, yet completely unintelligible to a human. My personal favorite is to convolve it with a spatial pattern, like typing the password out in Dvorak while using qwerty. Or u
