Parse/Cognito/etc allow you to quickly validate an idea that may or may not work out without having to invest in a backend engineer and a bunch of backend infrastructure. If it doesn't work, you've saved a bunch of time

That's possible without a password too, except that anybody in the area can MITM you instead of just people who bothered to set up honeypots. AFAIK WiFi only provides encryption on networks with a password.

Based on the article, the fact that their customers love them. Of course, it's not hard to have customers that love you at the early money-hemorrhaging stage - the tough bit is continuing to be loved once you're turning a profit.

I don't see why Amazon would want to buy enough disks to support 100% of what they promise and then sell the unused capacity at below cost when they could just buy fewer disks instead. Either way they'd be in trouble if their EC2

It seems like the hardest part of providing these services is getting the content owners on board. I haven't seen much indication that Amazon is better at cracking that nut than anybody else.

When possible, you should avoid having any userid that could be mistaken for a non-userid number - it prevents a lot of silly programming errors from going unnoticed or turning into bigger problems, and has very little downside. http:/
