Even simple help/reminder can make a big difference. I recall a bunch of research on how simple checklists in operating rooms improve prognosis by a huge margin (and yet they aren't as widely used as they should be).

Had a quick look. None of this looks like features for power users. How are "spaces" different than having multiple open windows?

> no customers are really allowed to use a VPS as if it were bare-metal I don't agree. What I'm paying for are vCPUs not actual CPUs. So I know I'm not getting bare metal and that the compute power is already managed by VP

I've been spending some time in California and I noticed a worrying trend that it gets harder and harder to purchase marijuana. ID requirements are getting more onerous, MasterCard no longer accepted, etc. Things are going backwards!

A/C only has two settings: off and too cold. Some people like too cold though. And a nice vest fixes the problem. I don't actually mind the ambient temperature being low as long as I can keep warm.

This reminds me of all those articles I've read about Silicon Valley hoodie as some sort of way for techies to declare their tribe. Then I went to Bay Area. And guess what? One really needs a hoodie there! It is the most versatile thin

Add Shibuya (mainly around the station) and Shinjuku and you basically covered all foreigner hotspots! Those are the most non-representative areas! But go to Shimokitezawa or Gakuendaigaku or anywhere off the beaten path and foreigners will

Actually, Japan doesn't begin anything. Japan has been doing this for years. The major shift in the last couple of years was introduction of new unskilled visas. I don't follow that too closely but IIRC what Japan introduced fir

The absolute fastest way to PR is through Highly Skilled Foreign Professional Type 1 visa. PR after a year. That's incredibly fast. Type 2 visa after 3 years IIRC. The difference between 1 and 2 is the number of points one scores.

Downvoting on HN confuses me. I don't ever downvote anything, I think it's a bad idea. Upvoting is ok, downvoting should be removed. Also, looking at comments, often I see only upvote and no downvote button. Why is that?

It is fascinating to see that I have negative points by simply recounting a bland personal experience. Who did I offend this time? :)

I found intermittent fasting hard on carb diet. It is super easy on keto diet. In fast I fast 2-3 days every now and then because it's just a seamless transition. I'm not saying my personal experience should be considered univers

I can only speak to my personal experience. I’m not an athlete but I lift, bike and so on. On empty stomach. I don’t eat before training. I could never do that on carb diet.

Sounds reasonable to me. I've been eating keto for a long time and I always feel like I have fat energy reserves to draw on. I wonder if keto-adapted men and women would outperform carb-adapted counterparts in ultra-endurance. From per

If men evolved to be bigger and stronger, as measured in some peak power output, surely there's a price on that? The candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast as the saying goes. Also, the article is mainly about one woma

How close 18 is to 10 in absolute sense has zero meaning. So does saying "10 most dangerous jobs" without quoting actual numbers. What if job 11 is 100x more safe than job 10? What if job 18 is 100000x more safe than job 10?

Why not actually? Instead of politicized solutions one could require schools at every level to create some sort of random admission pool for some percentage of yearly admissions. For instance, take the mean SAT of admitted students, lower i

My university (one of the top-ranked in the world) did have some sort of adjusted scaling for the final exams. The raw results were never released. One would get a number somehow adjusted for how to the whole cohort did. So that if some exa

Just introduce a random pool. RANDOM . I don't trust any of these people to do it correctly. I wouldn't even trust them to make random truly random.
