They have no claim. Irizarry vs Yehia[0], among others, have concluded that filming a public servant in the execution of their duties have no right to privacy. There was another case that came to the same conclusion because a woman recorded

I haven't heard of any electrically ignited primers that made it to market, but every attempt that's gone through military trials have had abysmal reliability.

One of the more amusing anecdotes I heard about the dilution debate was from a Scotch brand rep talking about an event where he's talking to their master distiller. The distiller got a glass of one of their whiskies neat, then just spl

I misread your username as a timestamp and was very, very confused for a minute. Very appropriate in this context.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Is hydrogen being used as the heat source and the reducing agent, or is it exclusively for reduction?
7. 67.▲
   by GravitasFailure 4y ago

For steel making, hydrogen is used as a reducing agent to reduce iron oxide to iron. I think arc furnaces are the usual heat sources if you're not using coal or natural gas.

Magnesium can't burn without oxygen, but it will happily rip the oxygen out of water and sand, making it exceptionally annoying to put out.

If you haven't already, give r/hfy a gander. There's no shortage of stories that can be summed up as, "The human did WHAT?" Plenty of variety, though.

The reason why I was asking is I've seen claims thrown around a lot about automation revolutionizing manufacturing, but that revolution has already been underway for eight decades with notable companies moving away from from it because

I'm curious how you see the current spate of AI/ML leading to an industrial revolution and what that revolution would look like to you.

Considering how tightly memory and smell are connected, plus the effects gastrointestinal health has on cognition...your suggestion isn't even remotely the weirdest thing that could be true about the human body and brain.

One of these days we may get same terminology around open source stuff, though I suspect that's the same day hell opens an ice skating rink.

"Open Source" gets weird with physical objects, though, since functional elements aren't covered by the copyright system software licenses rely on. Copyright would apply to decorative elements and the name plus trademark on t

Thin sheets might not be that much of a drawback if you can layer and fuse them, or even better make a composite sandwich like sea shells. It's going to be interesting to see how it gets commercialized.

The Pinecil V2 has a new processor with Bluetooth. I'm a little fuzzy on whether it offers WiFi as well, but Pine64 suggested it could be used to automatically activate a fume extractor based on the tip temperature. Home Assistant inte

That's definitely an idea worth trying, though it was mentioned elsewhere on this post that you can 3D print and polish your masters for casting rather than relying on having the lens already. https://news.ycombinator.com&#x

True, also the evenness of the surface is a little off without grinding which also limits the usefulness for optics. I just used it a few times when I needed an odd cylinder size that needed to be see through.

A few manufacturers have tried using the DMCA in an attempt to quash non OEM parts for repairs and modifications, with John Deere being something of a poster child. I believe it's been at least partially quashed for the consumer market

I've never seen a three prong charger for USB C. They probably exist, somewhere, but consumer electronics like that being grounded doesn't seem common.

Yeah, the chargers get expensive, but then again I can power my laptop, portable monitor, keyboard, mouse, phone, soldering iron, flashlight, power bank, and about a dozen other devices all off the same standardized wall wart. It's a p

The steam explosion is based off two assumptions: You're starting with cold sausage that heats up as it coalesces into the star, and that the steam gets trapped by the solid mass of sausage above it. Stars normally coalesce out of hydr
