It is both outrageous and unsurprising. This is how these companies ("tech" startups) are incentivized to operate. It is awful to watch this cycle happen over and over and over.

My Honeywell t-stat has a schedule and a hold function which can be either timed or permanent. If you want to lock a temperature, you can tap the hold button a couple times to set it to "permanent hold" and set the temperature to

What about the other part, the vast quantities of information that will never be encrypted because the sites remain but the people have moved on or are gone ? Why does that deserve a knockout punch?

The other failure you need for this to happen is a line-to-output short, which is unlikely to happen in Apple's chargers, which are very well built.

Man, I hate those gas cans. I've used a bunch of different cans with "safety" nozzles, and every time I get gas on the equipment, the can, the ground, my hands, etc. They're much worse than what we had before.

Line editors aren't so bad, and the Unix ed is pretty awesome. It's easy to list and read through code, and it has powerful search-and-replace. You just have to get used to using search or cursor movement commands for making edits

"Authenticated" is debatable. Someone has spent a few minutes on a third-party website to enable the green checkbox. Whether that means they are who you think they are is another matter.
