Not sure how it works in older versions, but in Firefox 3 RC2, the search engine you choose seems to persist across instances of the browser. So select Yahoo once and it stays Yahoo (unless that resets on a system restart). There is a link

So, rather than improve the infrastructure, his solution is just to cap everyone that downloads more than he does? Doesn't sound like the best long-term solution to me.

I guess that depends how much you can infer from such a comment. I would infer that the aversion exists because it's confusing and many times not helpful to cherry-pick criteria. Of course, I'm inferring that because it's my opinion on the

Hmm...is it just me or does is that comment fairly confusing? My point was that the overall growing on their market is definitely valuable to Apple, and the fact that they are in the market of selling expensive computers doesn't influence t

(I find it strange that so many people devote energy to thinking about what the numbers don't mean rather than thinking about what they do mean.) I think it's just a general aversion to the practice of cherry-picking criteria to post bigg

To some extent, Apple’s (AAPL) share of this market is growing by default. Companies like HP (HPQ), Dell (DELL) and Lenovo ship enormous quantities of PCs at price points between $500 and $750, whereas the only Macintosh that sells for les

So...by NY taxing people on stuff they are supposed to pay taxes on anyways, that makes them socialists? Interesting stance on the subject.

For some reason, I don't think basing selection of news stories on whatever is the funniest to crack jokes about is the "goal" we should aim for with reporting. Not trying to knock Jon Stewart, but just because sometimes he is more informat

Procrastination != success or lack of success. I don't think that was the point of making that comment. I took it to mean that if you really are a chronic procrastinator, you probably aren't going to end up in a position where you will ne

On paper, Crysis was a near flop, but when it comes to actual installs it's close to the game of the year! When did selling over a million copies of a game in the PC market make it a "flop"? I'm not saying piracy didn't reduce sales, I'm

I was not expecting to see this line in the article. The government is subsidizing the development of robots as caregivers for the old. That's pretty sweet. Hell, I'd buy my own robot butler even before I got old.

Assuming downloadable HD movies become more prevalent in the future, that 250GB cap no longer seems as generous.

I've heard comments in the past (though mainly in the direction of Time Warner) that these types of limits could be used to push forth a internet providers own distribution service. They could conceivably place hard-caps on everything excep

I would say that logic isn't limited to just browsers. I'd argue most people default addresses to .com when trying to recall them from memory.

Couldn't that just be further distilled down to users scanning material until they decide it's worth taking the time to read more thoroughly? Even if I'm in surfing mode, I'll stop to read an article if it's something that piques my interes

I find this interesting, mainly because personally I'm less hostile towards the company than I was 4-5 years ago. I think that overall, the "evilness" of MS has abated somewhat, and I no longer feel it necessary to scrutinize every action t

I'm sorry if I don't trust these "innovative" ISPs to not take advantage of any control they have over the data that passes through their lines. Take bandwidth limits for example. With Netflix and XBox Live, on-demand movie viewing is becom
