I think this adds on nicely to hackrtrackr which appears to only be useful for geo-locating yc-readers. This looks to be built much more to satisfy that "community of people who can pick each other's brains" need. A more blunt assessment..

I think this will work out great for them. Somethingawful.com is one example of a site which has a pay-barrier to it's forums primarily for the reason to keeping out trolls. Now you may have mixed opinions over the nature of things discusse

Anyone else find this article really useless without being able to see the screen shots in higher resolution? I am interested in the UI improvements, but I won't be told about them. SHOW me.

The irritating thing about that argument is it comes with the built-in implication that you already know something else (Windows/OSX/whatever). It is basically complaining about learning-curve, right? The other irritating thing is it usuall

Philosophically I am with you, but the site design seems to make it feel 'dirty' to me. I really wish it broadcast the ideals your blog post is rather than broadcasting a cockroach and dirt. I am curious what kind of features exist to comba

You are right on the money. It all comes down to the best shave for YOU. It's worth experimenting. After all if you are going for clean-shaven you are going to be shaving about once per day. 365 times per year. Thousands of times before you

Off the cuff solution: Require accounts be tied to a real identity (provide driver's license #?.. No I haven't thought about legal/privacy repercussions) and introduce a post-date rating system. Sprinkle in some sort of staleness algorithm

This blind date idea is really what interests me. I think profiles create two issues beyond the ones you already pointed out. I am pulling these examples from my experience on OkCupid. 1 - People don't give fully honest answers to personali

Hopefully it will reach a critical mass sufficient to allow sites to REQUIRE a flattr account to see their content. Note that this is different from requiring a subscription, since you aren't forced into donating to them. But you are forced

I second this! I wrote a post ( http://goosey.posterous.com/the-good-news-is-you-dont-have-t... ) recently about this development strategy. It has many advantages beyond the "you don't have to worry about hosing your laptop" one, for sure

It is for this very reason that I update my profile regularly, even if insignificant ways. I actually have a Google Calendar to remind me to do it twice a month. This can be great for your career. If you don't work for a itty bitty startup
