So tired of this meme. Humans are like a virus in the way that every species on the planet is like a virus. Look no further than invasive species to see that any form of life given the ability to expand it's population will do exactly that.

Isn't Buzz their twitter-like product? Now Buzz has hardly been a success, but it would be interesting to see how they can integrate it with Google+ since it has such a different model for communication. I am not using Buzz, so if I am wron

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I have a thing I like to do with friends called I call 'song sharing' in which we listen to the same song at the same time and write what we are picturing from the music. Once the song is over we al

I think HN gives off the impression that most people own company or freelance due to the content, but it is a bit of a filter effect. Similar to how everyone is living amazing awesome lives on facebook.

I feel similar to you. I wonder if being on HN is healthy for me. It exposes me to lots of new concepts and technologies, but only on a very superficial level since I am not diving into it... And it has a cost of feeding into an inferiority

I can't speak for the grandparent, but we use a similar system here and also on SVN. We have a 'core' team and a number of 'project' teams. Every team works in it's own branch, which is branched off of the trunk. The trunk is kept in a stab

I believe I understand the intention of this entire thread: in order to flush out good advice try to first highlight 'bad advice'. However I hope that all those who read it and all those who posted in it remember something very important. R

"We’ve effectively hired them to deal with managing the hard parts of our scaleability infrastructure and they are working for a fraction of what it would cost to do this ourselves." This, in my mind, is the most insightful line in this pos

I find that I simply can't use ebooks. Sitting and reading on a computer monitor for long periods of time is just too much strain on my eyes. Funny enough that I don't have as much issue coding all day or reading hackernews.. but if I sit a

This made me realize just how strongly Google is tied to the success of 'the internet' vs the traditional desktop. There isn't much in their strategy that doesn't make sense if you stop trying to figure out how it ties into seach/advertisin

I find this to be an interesting case study in the failure of .NET and WPF to deliver on their promises. It's a sample size of 1 and all, but it's one of the first examples I have seen where a client was written from scratch in .NET/WPF and
