I agree, although I still like having a hard copy reference. The biggest problem is that books are harder to keep current.

In the long run (and often even in the beginning) I find well-written, well-organized reference material to be more useful than a tutorial guide. I did not use Lutz to learn python, for example, I used David Beazley's Python Essential Refer

I don't really see much blame in that post. Comcast shut down searchyc. That's the simplest true explanation for what happened. It's sad. That's the extent to which they dwell on the issue.

I don't understand why they have to go from zero breaks to four per hour. Why not just one or two? A break every hour is not too bothersome and sometimes convenient or even welcome. A break every half-hour is sometimes disruptive but not

You can make sure the candidate knows it's a basic question by simply saying so. If the point really is to make the person feel at ease, that reassurance will be even more helpful. Say: Don't overthink this one, I just want a solution.

People used to buy books and magazines or go to the library. The great thing about the internet was that it replaced the hassle and expense of doing that. It works pretty well even with the nearly-content-free sites clogging up the system.

Emacs is very usable if you can make a few reasonable assumptions about the user. Obviously it's not perfect (see the discussion of changing fonts in the originally posted blog) but making those assumptions about the user allows for a grea

Most of my emacs customizations are pretty simple. M-x [ and M-x ] start and end macros. f5 runs a macro instead of C-M-x e. f6 copies the entire current line. f7 is line-goto. f9 is replace-string, f10 is replace-regexp. M-x g is who

Why should an emacs article mention vim? The author probably isn't qualified to fairly compare them and so doesn't bother trying. The focus is also writing prose rather than coding or basic text-editing. The differences between vim and em
