I think my mindset is similar yours, but I relate to what the author is saying because it reminds me of some of my coworkers who I find a little tiring.

I think you're actually pretty close to hitting the nail on the head. Of course I'm not even female and I find some of the things you're talking about tiresome... (Perhaps the issue is not exactly sexism, but infantilism?) Even more drainin

My biggest gripe with Require is having to wrap every single node.js library you want to use client side in boilerplate. It's obnoxious for all kinds of reasons. That said, I have yet to run across a solution that I actually like a whole lo

Yeah, with MySQL. You've probably got a pretty good point there. If I were to start a site myself one of the first things I'd do is never use MySQL, though it does improve ever so slowly. In the latest version(beta?) you can actually have a

I find sarcastic naming conventions can help the pain just a little. But yeah, otherwise completely agree.

I've got to agree with you. I recently started getting serious about changing positions and I've become completely convinced that much of the so-called 'talent shortage' is caused by the job search process, from job listings through to inte

South can often fail for reasons that are surprisingly silly, at least in my experience. Though it's still pretty useful compared to having nothing.

I always get a kick out of it when I see job ads that make a big deal about applicants having experience with 'Agile' or 'Scrum' like it's some sort of hard-earned skill that's it'd be worth using to filter applicants. I can just imagine so

It's not the proof by induction is a hard concept, though. Rather, writing out any formal proof is monotonous, tedious, lengthy, and prone to minor screw-ups, and to someone with an engineering mindset, not useful in any practical sense.

The 'get rid of all the options' philosophy is probably the single biggest reason when Gnome seems to have fragmented and was for several years a constant source of friction and hate between devs and certain corners of the community. Howeve

Update: I take it the automatic update feature was a Windows only thing? I've had machines using FGLRX off and on for years and never realized it had this feature. Guess that's a good thing, though, considering it evidently was never well i

~8 hours and 15 minutes of work, 5 days a week. ~$50k a year. Where I live, that'd be similar to getting paid ~$75 to 80k a year in the Bay Area.

This was interesting, but I think there's another dimension to it. It's not merely that ag created a property incentive to promote monogamy - there's also a huge change in terms of shared experience and the creation of the idea of class. In

My RT-N16 died just past warranty - something with the power; it'd only power on maybe 1 out of 25 times of sticking the adapter plug in. :/ Until that happened I'd been quite a fan and it ran custom firmware quite contentedly. Currently I'

This kind of thing can't make it to market as an actual product fast enough. As a lazy bachelor I constantly feel thwarted by the amount of effort required to eat a health balanced diet without it taking up several hours a day.
