This feels exactly like a feels good general public appeal law though. The average person doesn’t know or care much about 3D printers and is horrified by the level of gun violence in America and wants to see something done.

I do a lot of 3D printing and I had no idea either. I did some searching and this printer is as big as a work bench and likely costs around $200,000.

The accounting is all out of whack with these companies. If a GPU had a useful lifespan of around 3 years than it’s more a constant expense than R&D. They want you to believe they can cut the R&D at any time and be profitable but it

Our org straight up turned off our AI access after the GitHub copilot price increase blew right through the budget. At least on a personal I feel like I’ve been getting the same amount of work done but I have to think harder rather than sit

Our company went from “AI AI AI” to “GitHub Copilot has been suspended due to exceeding the budget” with this month’s price increase.

The hardware is just an x86 pc. You can install windows or any other Linux distro on it. SteamOS itself is designed as a hands off just works forever experience. You can tinker a surprising amount but it’s a very non standard configuration.

The way SteamOS works is a bit weird. By default the OS partition is read only, you can do whatever in your user directory. But they let you unlock it to make whatever changes you want. I’m pretty sure that this OS partition gets completely

For violent crime sure. But for theft if you can just consistently recover the loss + a penalty it will do so much more to discourage it than simply raising the penalty.

Most of those options are overlapping and redundant though. Only the total range really matters, by simplifying the front the whole system becomes easier to use and mechanically less complicated.

The variety of reasons being Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc. We all know why hardware has become unaffordable even if Valve hasn't spelled it out.

I fully believe that the current PC hardware should be able to play essentially any game for a very long time. And the only reason we are being pushed to upgrade is because games are pushing poorly optimized graphics with mandatory features

Budget reasons would be my guess. The USB-C port here is 10 gbit while the USB-A ports on the machine are USB 2.0(front) and 5gbit(rear) speeds. While they could have and imo should have just put usb 2.0 C ports on it, users have an expecta

SteamOS is highly customized and managed by Valve. It doesn't have the Arch repos or pacman. Updates to the OS come from Valve in large releases rather than per package. All apps installed either come through Steam or Flatpak. So it&#x

Wasn't the triple front derailleur basically obsoleted by putting more gears on the rear? All the talk has been around single front gears and 12-13 rear gears. None of that has to do with electronics.

I have had a very clunky experience historically. But I tried the built in steam game streaming over the local network to my steam deck and this time the experience was flawless. I feel like the problem is a very large number of rough edges

They aren't normal computers in the same way x86 is. They usually need proprietary drivers in custom boot processes, forked kernels with patches, etc. I'm yet to see a single SBC I can just download the iso from the debian website

My hope is this is just a soft launch that people who really want can get now, but that they revise it in the future to either be massively more powerful or much cheaper.

The problem imo is the usage and laws rather than the technology. Security cameras used for public good is good. But it needs to be heavily limited to preventing crime, with strict access logs and penalties for misuse.
