I fail really to see the difference between Hezbollah lunching rockets into Israel and Israel's pager bombs. Except the latter are pretty well targeted. Frankly I believe that the people complaining pagers wouldn't if Hezbollah ha

I looked at the population pyramid for Greece, just guessing but it looks like there are 10% fewer women in their 20s than men. Sometimes that sort of thing is because men come to work. Sometimes it's because young women up and leave.

Yes. The whole trope that systematic problems are ordinary individuals personal responsibility to do something about is tiresome.

A single family house is probably the worst investment, low rate of return and illiquid with high costs to sell. You can buy a house and won't break even till six years in. But it's the only way to invest rent money.

Better to live in a cheaply constructed 12 plex than in a 12 unit homeless encampment. Because lets be honest that is the two realistic choices we have before us.

Yeah if you're calcining concrete clinker you'll happily use resistive heating if electricity is cheaper than nat gas. I like to bitch about people that think the free market solves everything but oh noes the price of electricity

My standard response to negative energy prices is, it's oh noes for energy suppliers and oh yes baby for industrial users. A medium electric arc furnace consumes 60MW. 17 of those can draw a GW.

I tried some calculations comparing the amount of work energy you can get out of an acre of solar vs an acre of corn grown for ethanol. I get different numbers depending on data sources but it's around 50 times more. It's enough i

Big difference between RS422 and RS485 is the drivers for RS485 are required to survive a minus 7 volt difference between the two grounds. Old R422 drivers would smoke if you got more than 7 tenths of a volt difference. Which would happen i
