As a society we generally seem to be OK with allowing a few people to be hurt or killed in exchange for a type of entertainment. For example if you are a race car driver, you are certainly increasing your risk of dying, and increasing the r

The first example is nice because you don't have to change all of the numbers around every time you add/remove an entry from the list. But I don't like having to put the ".Ordered" before every ordered list, and in

Did you factor in depreciation as well? I would imagine that the additional miles on the vehicle would cause pretty significant depreciation, and would shorten the life of the vehicle, requiring you to buy a new one sooner if you are planni

There is a fair bit of overhead that comes with being an Uber driver (gas, maintenance, the cost of the car, additional taxes). So if you are being paid $21 an hour your take home will still be a lot lower than someone being paid $21 an hou

At least in my program (University of Waterloo Computer Science), there is barely any emphasis on practical things like modern tooling, different roles of a software engineer, etc., with the exception of some of the upper year courses. Inst

I prefer my Hamilton Khaki. Never needs a new battery, and looks nice and clean. About the same price as an Apple watch for almost none of the functionality, but I really like the idea of a mechanism keeping almost perfect time, just powere

What's your main problem with cash? Is it that it is fairly untraceable? Because for me that is the main benefit. If it is possible to access my purchase history with a warrant, it is also possible to access that history without one if

I largely agree with the post, but using "Baba is you" as an example I think actually goes against the authors point. The art in "Baba is you" is very simple, and would likely not take much money to create, yet the game

What is the alternative to having a government? If the current government was completely defunded, it wouldn't prevent governance entirely - we would just be governed by some private company or organization instead. How long are you ex

Hopefully we move towards a future where advertising is being targeted based on the location of the ad, rather than the person viewing it. If I am watching a car review, I have no problem watching an ad for a car (someone has to pay for the

Cracks don't cause a regular road to fail entirely, while if a solar panel cracks in half, it will most likely stop working. Also I don't see how solar roads make any sense when there is so much unused roof space and parking lots.

I would disagree with that. There are thousands of significant issues facing the US, and the world in general, you can't be vocal about them all. Just because I don't talk with people about what is happening in Hong Kong, or Yemen

That's why you build on top of a layer which ensures the OS has the required components. If you build on top of GTK, you know your application will run on any OS with that GTK version installed. Or if you build on top of Android, you k
