Web reach should be enough to trigger notability. Any website in the top 100,000 in terms of traffic for a year is important enough to merit Wikipedia attention. Notability should be determined by how useful the knowledge is, not whether o

There are different types of efficiencies. A small group can accomplish more tasks per person than a large group, as there is less overhead. However, large groups can benefit from network effects. A larger group may be able to build a repu

When it comes to sci-fi/fantasy writers, I feel their ability to envision speculative worlds heightens their ability to impartially observe their own reality. This is crucial. In order to get distance from the assumptions that govern our

There's a huge difference between writing "when the mood is on" and not writing when you're exhausted. Zeldman seems to conflate the two in this piece. I find that inspiration comes from forcing my way through the first paragraph. Usually

One additional thing is that the punishments have to be realistic. If your policy is to fire someone who is lax in security, your managers are likely to cover up infractions so that they don't have to fire their employees. You have to be wi

Won't the cars traded in just get sold right back out at extremely low prices? Overall this program is likely increasing the number of vehicles on the road. The energy cost of producing the new more efficient cars may well be offsetting the

In the long run, every industry is going to be "napstered." We’re going to have to rethink our economic structure to find incentives that work. If you think the RIAA an MPAA were a problem, wait until it’s Walmart and Costco. On the other h

I suspect that we just have different needs, and that's fine. I use google docs for quick access to simple documents, and it works very well for that. I'm just disturbed by the trend to less feature-rich word processors, when I would like
