I think this is just a matter of perspective and actually having different colors is a good thing: Thinking in terms of functional programming / category theory, this coloring seems to boil down to working with different arrows. The co

Judging from the code snippets, the language supports generic types (`List<T>`). Are there plans to support Higher kinded types? Smth like `typedef Ev<F extends Generic, E>=F<E>`.

There is quite a difference between a passive house and zero/plus energy buildings: The focus of a passive house is on energy efficiency while Zero/Plus energy buildings try to have a positive net value. While it certainly helps,

The talk of "exponential costs"... but would the increase in cost per user per month not be linear (wrt the numer of users)?

I was linking this to the same topic. But then I remembered David Graebers notion of bullshit jobs. The best explanation I came across so far was that in todays economy, the supply side is not a problem. So actual work has to be put in to c

This is a nice find but it is very old news. In mathematics (and mathematical physics), these are called string diagrams . The short and simplified version of the story: The (typed) lambda calculus 'corresponds' to cartesian clo

My guess would be that the yoneda lemma plays a role: The visual interpretation of Hom(-,X) would be roughly 'What are the visual parts of X'.

Why is this article linked here? It seems to have very poor journalistic standards: An article about a money sink on sicily, home of the cosa nostra, without mentioning money laundering.

Yes: The theory of relations/chu spaces is used in computer science. See for example [ http://chu.stanford.edu/guide.html ]

Agreed. Some definitions are really bad. I guess the cause is noble but it is executed very poorly. ( The definition of functional is also used nowhere in the document - Although it is mentioned. ) Another oddity: "Object oriented"

Yes: HOTT is an acchievement. It differs from the other items on the list, though, as it belongs to the "theory building" branch of mathematics and not to the "problem solving" branch. In the end, the current implementat

String diagrams are a way to describe morphisms (think functions) in monoidal categories. A construction using monoidal categories (or a slight generalisation) can be used to give a categorical model for arrows. http://bentnib.or

Very impressive if the author developed this by himself. But this is a well known idea from category theory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_diagram

Deprecating TeX is long overdue - for example creating non-book layouts (i.e. magazines) is a real pain. So: A a TeX compiler that can be called from JS can only be an intermediate solution. I think http://txtjs.com/ goes i

From a category theoretic point of view, subtraction is a natural candidate for comparison: It is the internal hom-functor in the ordered monoid of integers. One could argue that internal hom functors are the very essence of a "compari
