Very interesting idea ! I do wonder though if sufficiently complex life would ever evolve in an almost completely stable climate.

technically yes, 1 rotation takes the roughly the same time as 1 revolution around the earth which as you were probably hinting at is tidally locked

yes but, by far most cooling systems doesn't need electricity after you lower the control rods and shut down the reactor, that was specific to fukushima.. and even if all 400 reactors melted down it would still be the least of our prob

If something catastrophic enough to instantly cut off there whole grid in the west happens while also ruining all the several backups most plants have, nuclear power plants will be the least of our troubles. Fukushima was a very old design

> One big problem with collapse are the 400+ commercial nuclear reactors in the north hemisphere. Without connection to a working electric grid and regular diesel deliveries those will go boom and will spread enough radioactive material

the thing is though, that you can actually resell your old Mac when buying a new one. not like a pc that's basically worthless the moment you take it out of the store. the upgrading thing is kind of a myth since the new hardware coming

What you pay for is the form factor, the silence, the nice and cool temperatures, the battery life and the ability to actually use the damn thing without being plugged in. added bonus as a dev and a creator is the unified memory, hardware d

do we really know that scaling compute an order of magnitude won't at least get us close? what other "simple" techniques might actually work with that kind of compute ? at least i was a bit surprised by these first sparks, th

the only reason we don't hear non-stop about destruction is that you're required to keep both hands on the wheel/yolk at ALL times while FSD is activated. comparing the current cameras on a Tesla to the human eye is just sill

of course atheism doesn't need a root cause, but you can still justify this default by trying to dive down into why it actually is the default and to me personally when i boil the whole thing down this is sort of the root of why.

many religious interpretations of "living" is that it's magic and beyond the grasp of science. it basically boils down to if you believe that life is an inherent property of matter or if you believe that some magic entity mak

nuclear was green Jesus 50 years ago. Today it's been regulated into oblivion making it super expensive in most of the western world. that doesn't make the technology any less interesting and it still has huge potential as part of

My favorite cyclic theory so far is probably Roger Penrose's conformal cyclic cosmology. In essence the universe keeps expanding exponentially which in the end becomes equivalent to a new big bang since the universe at that point will

The same predictions was probably made, but with nuclear instead of renewables back in the 60s-70s . And frankly it seems like the world could have actually been run almost exclusively by nuclear today if we had realized how bad fossils whe

Depends on the woman and MANY would be attracted to the former. I'm pretty sure most would be better off with the kind of woman who is attracted to the former and that you should stay way clear women who values the latter.

let that sink in for a moment.. even with all the legal tax evasion schemes the top 1% is still paying half of all income taxes with the measly amounts they actually register as income. the system is simply broken
