Because if everything that transits on wires is blackbox encrypted anycast content, then you can either 1) block it, and cut the whole internet for that individual, or 2) let it go.

I agree with you, and that's what makes me sad. The current internet, with all its shortcomings, has created an impossible standard for alternative solutions that would be more secure / free to reach.

It's not really what I meant by distributed. I meant more in terms of governance, though the underlying implementation should mirror than distributed governance. Living close to Russia, then close to China for many years, I realised ho

I tend to think the web as we see it today is made on a lot of shortcuts made for the sake of simplicity and performance. There will be no free lunch, if we want something more distributed, reliable, secure, we will need to make compromises

There is litteraly 0 chance for you to be profitable in the medium to long term if you don't have years of experience in the industry. Anyone claiming that is not the case is just misinterpreting his PnL. The internet is full of people

To add on your comment: I don't even think the philosophical discussion makes sense. At the end of the day, what counts as the truth is how much fees you pay when sending a limit order that immediately crosses. And the answer, for ever

The conditional in the code _is_ a protection. It is not fair of you to consider it non-existent just because _you_ can easily bypass it. Using your argument, it would be fair to circumvent any protection as long as a specialist can trivial

Well first because autoconf/automake were built in the early 90s. It's not like there were a ton of choices back then. Basically if you wanted something that 1) is available on all Unix-like flavors and 2) is strictly well defined

I don't think you understand the role of autoconf... The whole point is that you _don't know_ yet what compiler is available, which version/flavor of C is supported, which API or syscall are available, etc. Autoconf was litte

I don't think the author realized that the `configure` script at the center of his rant is auto-generated by `autoconf`, and not written by a human... The source is a straightfoward `configure.ac` of 75 commented lines of code (13 with

Would be nice to add "Emacs" in the title. I thought this was some external, LSP-like, movement protocol for any editor based on the title.

Reading PDFs is no problem, I use `evince` since ~15 years and it does the job. I _very_ regularly have to sign documents though, and as OP said, nothing beats Adobe for that. I even pay the subscription so that I can have it on my phone, s

Dividend adjustment wouldn't really matter in this study. The price discount at dividend ex date should match the price increase post earnings announcements, so it's netted and disappears once you compute >=quarterly returns.

I don't understand why you mention CMake. CMake is not a build system, it does not replace make, or vsproj, or even pkgconfig. It's a _meta_ build system - that is it generates makefiles/vsproj/etc. CMake does not _find_
