I mean, theoretically (i.e. I have no idea if anything does this), you could have underlying system file descriptors, which did not inherit, then a mapping from "libc" file descriptors onto OS ones and some code in fork() to copy

I mean, technically, browser support changes nothing here—if you wanted wasm-level obfuscation, you could compile wasm to js, or you could write a wasm interpreter in js. I guess this normalizes writing code like this, but that’s it.

I think you can do all those things with typescript and any decent IDE.

hellcow was asking why they switched to Mulled. commoner suggested it was because ProtonVPN didn't do WireGuard.

IIRC macOS only supports syscalls via dynamically linked libc (libsystem)—there's no guarantee of a stable ABI for direct syscalls. Assuming go uses libsystem on macOS, is should be able to do something similar for BSD.

@mods would it be possible to add "when viewed in Russia" to the title? Seems like an important caveat.

That's from Varnish, a proxy server.

Wait, why? AFIAK for_each doesn't return another iterator, and I'm calling sum afterward.

Is Rust mainstream? If so, this code: numbers.iter().map(|n| { ... }).sum(); Compiles to a plain loop, with no allocation.

IIRC google et al never share your data with third parties. Instead, they use it to target ads from third parties.

On my 6S, the last item is "Research," and while it's pretty much fully on the screen, the margin below it is cut off enough that at least to me, it's obvious that there's scrolling to do.

Worth noting that, IIRC, this was never included in production/release builds of the dashboard.

How does that work? If you just never return it, is it assumed lost after some time?

Disclaimer: I've edited OSM a bit, but I don't know much about it. I had no idea before this post that iD was unpopular among any group. The OSM database consists, primarily, of nodes (points) and ways (ordered sets of nodes). On

In theory the Queen has the right to tell her advisors to bugger off, but in practice she hasn't done so in a long time, and I think it's widely believed that if she tried to exercise any power the monarchy would be abolished very

I don't think Apple or Microsoft's (released) AR stuff can be used for VR. Apple's ARKit just runs on a phone screen (which obviously isn't AR) and HoloLens doesn't have the field of view to be VR. So they'll p

IIRC (this is old and might have been wrong in the first place) iOS randomizes when it’s searching for networks but not when it’s connected to one.

This wouldn’t work for Safari, because Safari is trying to defend against data being transferred between even cooperating sites, as part of their anti-tracking work.

In garbage collected languages, are there any objects on the stack? I’m not familiar with GC implementations, but at least theoretically everything is allocated on the heap. Maybe some implementations keep things on the stack as an optimiza

Disclaimer: I’ve never tried to write Go. Memory management is not the only type of “little detail.” For instance, rust provides common collection operations (filer, map, find…) in the standard library. In go (AFIAK), you need to hand-write
