It’s a preliminary plan to build something... so basically a fantasy at this point. It’s also an old fantasy, he’s been saying this for at least two years.[1] Mind you... Musk said in May 2016 that he expected Tesla would produce 500,000 v

It’s a cool idea, and admittedly would be a sort of loophole, but it might just mean that such a drive would require an arbitrarily high amount to work. Maybe Stephen Hawking was right and as soon as you build a machine capable of time trav

I don’t think there is a true ELI5 answer, at least, I can’t think of one. The basic concept involves general relativity, and while there are ways to simplify it (i.e. no math) it’s still complicated. This does an ok job: https://

It doesn’t matter, it still implies time travel. Use the wormhole acceleration-return thought experiment as an example. If you can leave point A and arrive at point B before light could, it doesn’t matter if you took a shortcut.

There seems to be little recognition of the fact that FTL implies time travel, and just how unlikely that really is. I expect major advances in physics in the far future, but I’m not sure that bypassing causality and FTL will ever be one of

“The goal is algorithmic governance,” he added. Given that the tech isn’t there, maybe the idea is just to say “the algorithm did it” on a national scale. The technology might not be worth much at doing more than providing much wanted pre

I could be totally wrong, but I’m guessing that they’re coming from a “stewing in a brew of other people’s excreta and skin flakes, dirt and sebum,” rather than a modesty angle.

Patients under general anesthesia don’t, sedation is less certain. For obvious reasons, there’s no corpus or research into the issue, so it’s left to supposition. Remember that “sedation” and “unconscious” are not necessarily the same.

This isn’t an exercise in rescuing children or building a submersible for Musk, it’s an exercise in PR. The best that can be said is at least he’s not doing any harm. Designing, building, and deploying a sub for such a challenging environme

Of course that society existed only to break up and emigrate, it was hell on Earth, it requires an aircraft carrier as the center, and it was planned and executed by a mad billionaire with ambitions of world domination.
