Reducing it further into parts does not and I believe cannot explain why there is qualia. Denying qualia is just proudly ignoring reality. There is absolutely no reason to believe all aspects of reality are reducible to their parts and equi

It will still be baffling that there is consciousness. Maybe if you start messing with parts of my brain so I can become familiar with the third person correlates of consciousness (which in my usage refers entirely to the first person part)

Then we agree. You don’t have empirical evidence that I am conscious.

“Much of today’s discourse on AI consciousness rests not on empirical evidence but on functionalism …” In my view there can never be an empirical test for consciousness, because functionalism is wrong. If functionalism was right then there

I’m not sure how to reply to your comment since it is almost entirely addressed to some imaginary person and is full of projection. I’ll just add that both parties serve capital.

I just use debit cards and Venmo for everything. I’ve never understood why I’d use a credit card when I can just use the debit card and pay no fee. I’ll never afford a house anyways so the credit score argument is meaningless to me.

No it’s not. Election denialism in 2026 in an American context refers to Donald Trump and his supporters denying the results of the 2020 election (and related claims). Pretending that capital does not significantly affect our elections cont

You don’t get to 25 or 30 trillion total addressable market by providing AI for the people who like AI. The whole plan is to replace all white collar work with AI. This requires more data centers. The people who benefit the most from this w

You don’t think Anthropic belongs on that list? They’re working as hard as possible to plunder most of human creation and disturb all human life so that they can enrich themselves.

The world consists of independent actors, at different scales, and lots of entropy. Any model like yours giving all the agency to 50 protagonists is a silly oversimplification.

I’m assuming you’re a software engineer. The AI programming meta that keeps evolving (last month it was loops) seems like a relatively trivial skill to adopt compared to learning what it’s like to do high quality work and to participate in

A few weeks ago a guy came up to me at a coffee shop to ask if I wanted to develop his big AI idea that he’s getting patented soon. Obviously I didn’t want to but during the conversation he spent a lot of time telling me that his big thing

I don’t think there’s a big societal problem here, except that the agentic programming developers may be out of a job like the rest of us. If AI continues improving it will just keep taking over whatever skills are involved in the current A

I also do this. It would be better I think to generate exact references to primary and canonical sources to avoid learning LLMisms, or to feed it these and have it ensure its material is anchored to those good references.
