"Neo Feudalism" is a dumb term... but people say "hold down the fort" O_o I'd love a more nuanced term, but I don't think 'minimal social mobility' is snappy enough to catch on. What's a bette

You make a good point that hiphop has a misogyny problem, (it also suffers from misogyny's sibling disease, homophobia,) but why keep that issue focused on black music when all music has a misogyny problem[1]. Is Kanye worse than Robin

The difference between hero or primadonna can be environmental. When there are multiple experts for a department/tech stack, you get heroes. If the bus number is one, a hero risks converting to a primadonna.

Do you think software is a medium that can create one-person (or small team) masterworks in any form but games? Candidates that come to my mind are lisp, unix, and visicalc. I wonder if the nature of software means that craft code is destin

Why the downvote? Here is a citation [1] that molten salt reactor was killed for political reasons. Or was I jumping to conclusions to suggest that activists knew or cared about such details? [1] http://moltensalt.org/refere

The safety concerns of the activists could have been quelled by developing thorium as a fuel. it appears to be very safe, too safe maybe to get funding. Instead, the technology that got developed was the one that created weapons grade mate

I'm in a similar environment--a very small crew. I'm curious what feature subset you settled with. Ours got as far as aggregate ops, and the complexity of that turned out to be 'hydra'. (Surely I've cut off the last

'How do we power cars' is a red herring question. Cars are a symptom of sprawl, and sprawl is exceeding it's scaling limits. Canada is well past the limits of traffic and noise and death by collisions that are tolerated by na

In my travels, I have been to multiple cities where the advice is, NEVER USE UNLICENSED TAXIS. Tourists are grifted or worse by unlicensed drivers. I read a tragic hand written warning at a youth hostel by a victim who was held a knife poin
