I'm going to take a wild guess and say Apple's Smart Cover is 33% as thick as the previous iPad.

It's extremely refreshing to read something regarding one of Apple's unpopular moves that isn't laced with fanboyism of one stripe or another.

I don't know what Apple is thinking with these iMovie and GarageBand apps. Everybody knows the iPad is only for consumption. Did they not get the memo?

Likewise for GoDaddy, hhgregg, and scores of startup names. It's like my brain is looking for a meaningful word and halts briefly when it can't find one. Textual basilisks? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Langford#Basilisks

Thunderbolt has two 10Gbps channels. It's still capable of driving two 2560x1600 displays just like the DisplayPort it replaces could.

One problem this (partially) solves is the performance gap between internal PCIe-based peripherals and external devices. USB3 and ExpressCard both top out at half the bandwidth of even a single lane PCIe 3.0 slot. If you look at the list of

2x10Gbps is still enough to drive two 2560x1600 displays at 60Hz, which is all the prior DisplayPort implementation could do.

However, they've artificially retained control of the channel via DRM, software that doesn't allow you to install whatever you want on your own hardware. Why don't you just remove Apple's software and install your own?

I think Lanier's point (better articulated in the book) is not that there are no examples but that what examples there are don't scale up to match what is (arguably) being lost. How many opportunities are there to replicate those examples,
