I'd say that Zillow and Redfin are better on average than traditional appraisers. Traditional appraisers might be better in certain markets or conditions though (probably Zillow and Redfin are more generic). I've worked on homeown

The real economic question is whether they can keep charging 6% commissions as the internet evolves That's the point. In pre-internet ages, there was a huge information imbalance that kind of validated that 6% (also, there wasn'

There are conventions in Vegas too, I was unpleasantly surprised by resort fees and other lowhanded tactics when I went there last week :(

I can believe the 180% number related to importing an U.S. car, but why would anyone do that? :)

Most rail systems do lose money, but this one sounds pretty bad planning. The population of the cities being connected is extremely low, and prices are ridiculously cheap too (2 to 10 dollars?). 100 million was wildly optimistic, French-sty

Yes, the U.S. should start taking ideas from China. And cars in Belgium aren't 180% of the price in the U.S. (not to mention they're part of the EU so they don't have to import German or French cars). The main difference is t

I don't know why you're being downvoted. The anti-immigration stance is a well known problem in Japan, relaxing it in a sane way would definitely solve some of their social services problems.

Hopefully they'll relax immigration requirements? Maybe from Southeast Asia and the Phillipines? They're very used to working in the hospitality industry, a lot of cruise staff are Filipinos for example.

I suspect it's geographic. That happened to Ruby in the past, these languages get traction first in Silicon Valley (highest paid area for software) and then spread out. It's also not very mainstream. Stuff like Java or C# has mill

I think that 97% number is misleading. Sure, maybe 97% fail, but most have already failed before taking on an employee on equity. A more appropriate number would be the number of startups that fail after that milestone. For instance, I calc

I'd say that if you're employee 3.000, the company has already made it, although, as a counterexample, Uber has 6.700 employees and I don't know if it will bust or not.
