Oh grow up. It’s so naive to think there’s no time, effort or money in building what they have. That there’s no ongoing costs. That it doesn’t take thought. They should build it and you should just get it for free. Is 30% reasonable? Should

We spent years moving to forced encryption and multi-factor authentication for this? Microsoft could answer questions like: Which of my employees is leaking info to a competitor? Looking for a new job? I’m buying a property. What’s the leve

This is what I fail to understand. It’s a cool hack but ad-free YouTube is a few dollars a month. Spend that creative time elsewhere!

I haven’t kept up with it but UE is still the most functional editor I’ve used. I’ve dabbled in Sublime, BBEdit, VIM and others but UE had some tricks none other have matched.

How long is this model sustainable? How long before they have a reputation of a firm to be avoided? This isn’t the first we’ve heard and I’d wager we all know it by now. So how long before the non-technical general population shuns the bran

I’ll add my lament. We use nest cameras, a nest thermostat and google WiFi. As part of their recent forced account merge our WiFi controls no longer work. Their apps are buggy and freeze-prone, and ironically continually trying to sell more

My takeaway is how tone-deaf automakers are. Do they actually need clients with fire and pitchforks to listen? Touchscreens are the wrong UI choice for cars. Full stop.

There’s a larger story about consolidation on the web and longstanding franchises getting folded into others are going dark. The economics of cameras have changed but I fear that the market for independent reviews has cratered and made it m

I fully recognize that media is a business like any other, subject to pressures and the biases of its participants. (It’s a product, said a CNN producer friend.) With that said, is it any wonder, with certain politicians demonizing media at

I’m on day two of converting from LastPass to another service (Keeper in my case.) Canceled auto-renewal, deleted the account, and exported/imported within a half-hour. That part was painless. Resetting passwords, however, is something

My mother-in-law, also from Waco, took a bus alone to Fort Worth, changed buses, and continued on to Witchita Falls. All at age five. For all of our nation’s ills, a child walking on his own block outside is a crime that warrants this extra

We need a BT manifesto of how phones, cars, etc should behave: 1. Don’t start any program/activity unless directed. 2. Don’t switch output devices without confirmation. My biggest complaints are my car taking over a call mid-conversat

Democratically? I hope you’re kidding. This court doesn’t have the thinnest of veneers to hide behind. They have a pretty obvious agenda (e.g., Thomas’s concurring opinion) and show no deference to either precedent or the Constitution. We’r

Went through this same expedition with similar results. Two conclusions: I won’t buy a laptop with only usb-c again; and searching for thunderbolt hubs instead of usb-c hubs led to the real hardware others have mentioned (CalDigit, et al.)

Are you saying every tomtom, garmin, etc used Bluetooth and cell services for navigation all those years? Not to be argumentative but dedicated GPS devices didn’t always have that option. Also I’m curious: it uses triangulation off cell tow

I’ll add one: if you pair AirPods with one of your devices, it adds them to all devices attached to your AppleID. Remove them from one removes them from all. This removes one possible solution to unwanted switching between devices. I know y

Lower-Case use of mm in accounting and finance is incredibly common. If you worked in those industries it’s understandable you’d think everyone followed that convention.

If you haven’t, I urge you to watch The Crime Of The Century on HBO. The title is not hyperbolic, and this outcome speaks to just how unequal justice is for the wealthy.

The answer is because it’s a pretty narrow market. Anyone wanting good quality has purchased a camera (or has one), external mic, and cobbled it together themselves. Or they buy a laptop with a decent camera and add a mic. So your market is
