Forza Horizon 6 was a bit of a shit-fight to get it working. GPU crashes, audio just failing, and 20-questions with what combination of runtime and configs would get it to play ball, and it would break after some patches, but it really stab

I wish I could work somewhere where I’m _marginally_ less subject to the whims of the Boardroom class. I’m sure they’re having a great time, and getting filthy rich doing it, but I don’t enjoy having my livelihood attached to the consequenc

Every day, the rate of “could post a picture of 40k tech priests and have it taken unironically” goes up, and it’s starting to get concerning.

If you’re fine with a future like Warhammer 40k where we all have to be Tech Priests making prayers and performing opaque rituals to get things out of the machine god because we no longer understand things, that’s fine, but that’s not a fut

This is usually my default position, but apparently that “gas town” article was Real and Serious and Distinctly Not Satire, and I started to feel reality fragmenting underneath me.

I’d put money on Apple buying/acqui-hiring the Talaas people to further this.

Would pay good money to see Silicon Valley complete their disconnection from reality and drift off into the void. The rest of us would get some semblance of normality back if they did.

I haven encountered a _shocking_ number of people who treat Redis as a persistent store. There mere mention that it has some kind of persistence machinery is enough to convince some that is therefore durable and stable and should be treated

I mean sure, I’d you’re attempting to run the biggest possible models, it’s going to require a stupid amount of compute? I thought we all knew this? The appeal to me is that we can run that, but we can also run smaller models on your laptop

Given the uhhh, quality and issues GitHub and Microslop have been exhibiting recently, that’s probably not a great indicator.

I like how “you’ve fallen behind” is the ai version of “you’re not gonna make it” from the crypto-bro days.

None of that matters, if the populace lacks the purchasing power to sustain these “new markets”. It also assumes, that incumbents won’t enter the new markets, and acquire/squeeze/kill the new players.

Sure would be nice if we got to see any of that, instead of it all going solely to resource guzzling data centres selling opaque models whilst simultaneously destroying the pricing for local hardware!

LLM’s are nice. But if push came to shove, we could very easily continue on without them, or without them involved in every aspect. Being able to write cutesy SaaS apps faster is neat, but not like, essential, the way water is.

Amusingly enough, I’ve had certain EAC games work _better_ under Linux than windows. I used to dread seeing the EAC splash because it inevitably meant frequent crashes on windows, with no such issues on Linux.

Just get the bigger models to figure out the architecture required for hot-swappable sub-experts without loss of performance! Got all those tokens, isn’t that the point of auto research and friends?? (Only sort of joking).

Yes I rather think “just do the Friday-Monday thing with it” will get applied, but without the realisation that once this trigger is pulled, it can’t now be “un-pulled” at a later date.

Moreover, is this a clever way for the frontier labs to try and “dodge” the negative impacts of the bubble popping. “Oh no it’s not our fault!!1! ~~My dad works at Nintendo~~ the govt told us we weren’t allowed to release it”
