The claim is not that Blockstream intended to profit from Lightning. Rather they used the promise of Lightning to throttle Bitcoin, in order to profit from Liquid.

Bitcoin adoption was growing and working well for monetary transfer but its capacity was throttled to encourage use of an unproven technology, the lightning network. The claim, as far as understand it, is that Blockstream supported this pla

I'm seeing a lot of valid concerns and criticisms of Blockstream's actions and methods. I dont think they can be dismissed with ad hominems.

Pseudo anonymity is probably fine, but web-of-trust solutions to help quarantine armies of sock puppets and manipulators would be really useful. Can't imagine why Twitter/FB won't implement. (Ok. I can imagine)

Transitive trust / Web-of-Trust is the solution I think. You do need to find one trustworthy entry point to such a web of trust, maybe a journalist or a news source that you trust. Once you trust one node in a network that is providing

I've been working on a decentralized discussion platform for the past 2 years or so. My view is that the issues that the OP is concerned about arise from an absence of functioning reputation and trust systems. After all, fake news and

https://member.cash is just one interface to the Member platform. The database is open (on a blockchain) and the source is open (github) thus it is easy to host a mirror. For example, https://member.bchd.cash Even if

You might consider https://member.cash User accounts are based on private keys, so are self-sovereign. Posts and interactions are recorded on the blockchain, so removal becomes impossible.

It is an improvement over reddit's gradually worsening interface, however it is still based on reddit's private platform. For an open source alternative on a public platform, there is matrix or member.cash

Member.cash works as a pretty good replacement for reddit. Public platform rather than a private platform too.

Only P2P platforms like Bittorrent and Bitcoin have shown effective censorship resistance from government. For effective censorship resistant speech, the only effective solution is P2P speech platforms like scuttlebutt and member.cash Movin

Switching one private plaform for another is dumb. You'll spend years building a following only to have the rug pulled if you start to matter. A public platform is the only solution that fixes our free speech problem.

In a similar vein, there's also a crowdfunding campaign for the documentary 'Breaking Bitcoin'. It's to be about how Bitcoin was hijacked and throttled. http://flipstarter.breakingbitcoinfilm.com/

member.cash is an interesting Reddit alternative. Not federated, but all the content is on a blockchain, so comments/users can't be censored, but users can filter them.
